Can Nader siphon votes from Kerry?

I have laid out my arguments in another thread, but I took a notion to take a poll.

Basically this is the drill:

Nader is a self-proclaimed socialist and unequivocally anti-war.

Kerry is not, or not quite.

My contention: Only leftists who are totally disgusted with the Democratic Party, and would not vote otherwise, will vote for Nader.

Monkey business by Republicans to get Nader on the ballot in certain states not relevant to poll.

Bah, Nader sucks. I'm voting for David Cobb (probably).

To answer the question, I'm thinking no. It's doubtful that people in swing states would vote for Nader over Kerry. Like it or not, voting Bush out means voting for Kerry.

This is no time to vote for Nader.
Bush fires science advisors that don't tell him what he wants to hear.
He wants to take the drastic step of amending the Constitution to make it more closely resemble the bible.
He's got two wars going on (that I don't entirely disagree with) and now he's talking ◊◊◊◊ about Iran.
He's going to get to install two Supreme Court Justices.

All I like about Kerry is that he is not Bush. This is the first election I've ever cared about in my life.

Those leftists who are always complaining that there is no difference between the Rupublicans and the Democrats will vote Nader. I predict Nader will take 3%-7% nationally and will hand over 1-2 swing states to Bush.

I think it will be closer to 3 than 7, and (sadly) agree with your predicted outcome.

Ralph needs a talking-to.

I'm disturbed by any thing, that is ANYTHING AT ALL, that looks as if it might take an anti-Bush vote away from Kerry. Someone should take Ralph aside and explain to him that he is not, that is NOT EVER, going to be president and in fact may inflict another four years of the Bushies on the U.S.A. if he persists in his futile attempts.

His message may be valuable, but his interfering with the elections is beginning to look more like an ego trip that can damage this country. He should abandon his campaign and deliver his message to the people in office in a way that engages their favor rather than as an opposing candidate.

Most of us will vote for Kerry no matter what, but there are inevitably some wafflers who in a moment of weakness may press the Nader button when they enter the voting booth. I fear that any resulting contestable vote will be snatched up by the Bushies via the Supreme Court or whatever agency they can deploy to aid their cause. I also fear that the Democrats will stand by wringing their hands while this theft goes on under their noses, as it appears happened in 2000.

What Lemastre said.

In one sense, Nader is the lowest form of scum on the political scene. Bush believes in something (scary). Kerry, I think, believes in something. Nader believes in Nader -- an ego run amok.

I too am a former Nader supporter that is wising up this year. And it's not just a "get rid of bush" priority, it's also a serious drop in my respect for him, based on how he's handled his campaign this year.

Yes, I think he CAN siphon votes. But I hope that he will not.

Invert the question...if Nader pulled out tomorrow, would more of those who had planned to vote for him switch to Kerry or switch to Bush?

Unless you can support the notion that more would vote for Bush (or that it would be 50/50 ), then yes, Nader will pull some votes away from the Dems. That is what hopelessly outvoted 3rd parties do..they act as spoilers and little else

Good question. But I can't imagine Bush appealing to anyone who would go for Nader. You need to understand, however, that I have an almost irrational disdain for Bush's administration and can't imagine it appealing to anyone other than the very rich.

I feel sorry for Nader, he suffered enough.
See: Don't Run Ralph - Simpson Cartoon

I'd almost vote for him, but I'm afraid he might appoint the same
electors as Kerry which might accidently, out of total confusion,
leading them to vote not for Nader.

Watch this Frontline special on the Jesus Factor.

You'll learn there's eighty million evangelicals ready to vote for Bush.
You might say that God want's to call this country home.
