Calls for a Cease Fire Are a Ploy

Can I kick you in the nuts if I promise not to do it very hard? I'm a 130 pound thin fat person with no martial training so it probably won't hurt very much.

Nominated for the language award, not for exposing Dustin's nonsensical "reasoning", but for the wittiness of the reply.

Nazareth, Haifa, Tiberias, all under attack ---

Tonight (Israel time) there have been volleys of rockets from Hezbollah landing all across the Israeli landscape --- with deadly results --- and I don't care where you live on this planet, if your town or city was under this kind of unprovoked pre-planned assault, I guarantee you would want your military to stop it.
In any way they can, and with as much overwhelming force as they can muster.

Well, they only have 10,000 - 11,000 rockets. The rules are that you have to wait until one of those gets lucky and kills more people before responding.

BTW: How many people *do* have to die before a country is allowed to do anything about it. I know that 12 isn't enough, but what is the actual number? Is it a percentage of population, or is the number the same for all countries?

Somehow, forgotten in all this are:
Gilad Shalit
Ehud Goldwasser
Eldad Regev

  • Corporal Shalit's father, Noam, has said (in a current interview with The Times of London)
“It is a very solid and well-known code in Israel, and the Israel Defence Forces in particular, that they don’t abandon combat soldiers in the field. I believe it is still valid.”

He added: “My message to the Hamas people is first of all let’s stop this crisis immediately. What good will come out of it?"

Indeed.
Two palestinian-arab children were just killed in Nazareth by incoming missiles from Lebanon.

Their deaths are for what?

Gilad Shalit is a name I've not seen for a while; the news reports tend to mention the other pair, if they mention any of the kidnapped at all. I think things have just moved on from there - unluckily for them and their families.

Edited to add: Mind you even if the media has lost interest I imagine that the IDF hasn't.

The Rockets aren't being fired at the Israeli army because they have no real strategic effect. Their effect is mostly psychological due to their screeching sound as they fly through the air.

Dude, you just admitted their only purpose is to attack civilians.

It took over three years for the IDF to recover the bodies of those taken in the previous Hezbollah kidnapping:

Omar Sawayid, Benny Avraham and Adi Avitan
The soldiers were captured in October 2000 after Hezbollah terrorists set off a bomb next to their jeep on the Israel-Lebanon border. They were already dead shortly after the attack, yet Hezbollah continued to demand that Israelis release many prisoners, even to the point when only the soldiers' bodies were offered in return...
On Jan 29th 2004 the coffins were received at Ben Gurion airport, to a full IDF Honor Guard.

That same day as palestinians were freed, a palestinian terrorist exploded himself on the Egged #19 bus in Jerusalem, killing over a dozen innocent people. Yeah, 2004 seems like an eternity ago.... except for the dead, who are unluckily still dead.

As you well know, war is diplomacy by other means. Terrorism is a way to wage war when you are small and impotent compared to your opponent. It is a tactic of the desperate and the weak.

No good comes from it in the short term. In the future, perhaps others will enjoy greater freedoms or relative peace as a result of this conflict, but I'm not holding my breath.

Their deaths are for what?

That question has no doubt been asked by millions of parents in the past about their own dead children. There is no answer. War is hell, but the human race isn't getting rid of it.

Tragic, but true.

Watch some CNN. I'm not saying anything that they aren't saying.

Then you realize that by attacking Lebanon and killing civilians(Intentional or not) Israel is just causing lebanese support for Hezbollah to grow. When Hezbollah is preaching against Israel and then Lebanese see Israel coming in and blowing up their homes and work places and killing innocent civilians, The Lebanese start to support Hezbollah and say "See, Hezbollah was right. Israel are blood thirsty and evil!" True or not...It's the case. Israel is just fueling the fire of support for Hezbollah. If you're naive enough to believe Hezbollah will all of a sudden "surrender" like a conventional army, You're only deluding yourself. Hezbollah will continue to grow stronger as Israel continues it's aggression against the lebanese people.

I would want them to stop it..However NOT by attacking innocent helpless civilians. Since as we can clearly see...It isn't even working.

Opposed to the Dozens of lebanese children..

Their deaths are for what?

2 Hostage soldiers from Israel?

Is that how you measure Lebanese life? 2 Israeli children=Dozens of Lebanese children?

That seems to be how Hezbollah measures it. They don't seem to care who pays the price for their crimes.

You aren't making sense. Hezbollah kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers. Are you saying that the deaths of hundreds of innocent lebanese are the payment for the crime of kidnapping 2 Israeli soldiers?

More Proof you disregard the life of the Lebanese people.

It's Hezbollah that disregards the life of the Lebanese people. Hezbollah could end this within hours just by giving those soldiers back. Do they? No, they don't care how many Lebanese suffer and die for their adventurism.

1.Israel has already stated that they won't end the fighting just because Hezbollah returns the soldiers. Israel has stated they want Hezbollah completly destroied and disarmed.

2.Assuming Hezbollah disregards life. So does Israel by attacking the lebanese people without warning because as you say "terrorists" in their country comited crimes. There were much more subtle ways to fix this problem of Hezbollah without launching rockets into Lebanon. That is the most knee-jerk irrational reaction that they could of done.

Assuming Hezbollah are indeed terrorists...Then we can equate Israel attacking the lebanese people to Canada bombing America because American terrrorists attack Canadian troops. America of course would be the victim. But switch it around and all of a sudden Israel is the victim. Talk about crooked logic.

So they should.

The difference is that the IDF’s actions are designed to protect Israel, which is what any military should do for its country.

Hezbollah’s actions placed its country in danger, yet they do it anyway because their hatred is so strong it’s not rational.

Canada would rightly trust the US authorities to take care of the problem, but if for some reason the United States were unable or unwilling to do what was necessary, I would not blame Canada for doing it themselves.

Speaking of Canada, their Prime Minister seems to have the right idea:

Mr. Harper repeated his defence of Israel's right to live peacefully, condemning the violence of Hezbollah terrorists and speaking out against the suffering of innocent people in Lebanon and Gaza – responsibility for which he laid squarely at the feet of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas, the terrorist organization that forms the government of the Palestinian Authority.

2 Hostage soldiers from Israel?

Yes.

Perhaps the Hizbullah, that protector of Lebanon, should have thought of that before it kidnapped the soldiers, hmmmm?

Quick report from BWI ---

This morning at 6:30am, a flight arrived with evacuees from the Lebanon.

I went out to the airport, with an Israeli flag (a really big one) and was told to leave by police.

I am going back tomorrow and bringing a Lebanese flag. I want to see if their reaction is the same.

:LEBANON:

Israel is just causing lebanese support for Hezbollah to grow.

No, it is not.
The vast majority of Lebanese understand perfectly well that this entire fiasco is the complete responsibility of Hezbollah, and that their economy which was doing great on July 10th, is now in complete shambles due to the Hezbollah/Iranian/Syrian adventurism. Ask any person who runs a hotel, who has a restaurant, or who drives a taxi, and they all would say the same thing -- Hezbollah are a bunch of idiots.

The Lebanese all see this cause-effect relationship.

After the return of the captured soldiers, in gaza and in lebanon, the IDF will stop.
All claims that this would not happen are without foundation.

Do you enjoy mocking evacuees?

Hopefully they will arrest you for trespassing next time.
