Bush to commute Libby prison sentence

You know, if Libby were mentally retarded or if Libby's lawyer had slept through the trial, Bush would likely not have been as lenient.

You mean like Sandy Berger? How much prison time did Pres. Clinton serve for perjury?

that didn't take long. what is this, reply number five in the thread?

Is that your justification for what Bush and Libby have been doing? That what Clinton did is somehow worse (lying about irrelevant events in his personal life).

Kind of like impeaching a guy for lying in a deposition on an irrelevant topic in a case that was settled to the satisfaction of all parties.

No, no, no. That's faaaaaaaaaaaaar worse. Outing a CIA officer and then lying repeatedly during the investigation has nothing on that.

The thing that really really really really disgusts me about this is all the post quotes....I have not been able to find one republician quote on how this is a bad decision.

Found one And its Freaucking gross...

Exihibit A
The prosecutor in the case "went after somebody even when he knew no crime had been committed," Romney said. "Given that fact, isn't it reasonable for a commutation of a portion of the sentence to be made?"

Followed by Exihibit B and C
B
As governor, Romney twice rejected a pardon for Anthony Circosta, who at age 13 was convicted of assault for shooting another boy in the arm with a BB gun—a shot that didn't break the skin. Circosta worked his way through college, joined the Army National Guard and led a platoon of 20 soldiers in Iraq's deadly Sunni triangle. In 2005, as he was serving in Iraq, he sought a pardon to fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer.
C
In his presidential bid, Romney often proudly points out that he was the first governor in modern Massachusetts history to deny every request for a pardon or commutation during his four years in office. He says he refused pardons because he didn't want to overturn a jury.

During the four years Romney was in office, 100 requests for commutations and 172 requests for pardons were filed in the state. All were denied.

If I ever go lunitic its people like this who go down first. I am disgusted.

Republican candidates will separate themselves from Bush and this commutation will be long forgotten in 2008. Dems trying to use it in campaigns will look foolish as they will be appearing to run against Bush, not the GOP candidates.

Unless Fred Thompson is their candidate. Then this issue will be front and center. In fact, this whole mess and Thompson's role in it might well be a fatal flaw that keeps Thompson from getting the Repub nod.

SezMe:

I am unaware of the Thompson link to this. Please enlighten me.

I *do* know the far right conservatives are drooling about Thompson for some reason.

Lurker

Thompson is an advisor to the Libby Legal Defense Trust. Linky.

But that bald statement understates his support for Libby. "No one has been more active in this undertaking on Libby's behalf than former Tennessee Senator Fred D. Thompson" Linky.

Active, as in leading efforts to raise money. Serious money. $5 million serious dollars. Linky.

ETA: That $5 mil is why the Libby fine that Bush cited as punishment is a joke.

Well, he joins some interesting company. Bush also commuted a sentence for serial killer Henry Lee Lucas.

That'll be a Jeopardy question someday.

Did someone say something abut a pardon not being given around here? I guess they're still negotiating.

Washington (AP) President Bush isn't ruling out the possibility of a full pardon for former White House aide Lewis Libby. The president says he carefully weighed his decision to commute Libby's two and-a-half year prison sentence in the C-I-A leak case, saying the sentence was too severe.

... I've never seen a headline in a mainstream newspaper where a Democrat was criticizing her, as opposed to what we saw when Hillary tried to help write a health care plan. No, you simply cannot support any kind of case that their treatment has been equal...

There's no similarity in Hillary's and Laura's political profiles.

Laura is an icon -- a teacher, mother, the Good Wife. The Dems attack her, they'll piss off too many of their own constits.

Hillary is her own woman. She's a force on her own. She's worn a target-knit sweather since WJC left Little Rock (and before).

It's got nothing to do with 'fairness.' It's their natures that make the difference.

Committing perjury when it comes to leaking undercover CIA operatives... okey-dokey!

Committing perjury when it comes to blowjobs... bummer!

President clinton committed perjury and obstruction of justice in a sexual harrasment case. That is more than a bummer. Sexual harrasment is a serious charge. Although he claims what he did was not sex and hence says it wasn't perjury.

This doesn't lessen what Scooter Libby allegedly did.

But I think he didn't let him out only changed the sentence from death to life imprisonment.

No, no, no. That's faaaaaaaaaaaaar worse. Outing a CIA officer and then lying repeatedly during the investigation has nothing on that.
Then why didn't Fitzgerald charge Libby with outing a CIA operative? If he proved to a jury that Libby was lying then why did he stop there and not convict Libby for the outing? More to the point, why didn't Fitzgerald charge the person that admitted leaking her name, Richard Armitage?

Haaaaaaa....Haaaaaa...a BJ is not sex..."Definite the meaning's of What Is Is"?

Haaaaaa...Haaaaa...

Another great moment in the Klitoon Admin...

In September, 1999, Cisneros negotiated a plea agreement, under which he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of lying to the FBI, and was fined $10,000. He did not receive jail-time or probation. He was pardoned by President Bill Clinton in January 2001

Hey RandFan
You appear to have nothing to say about senior republicans lying. Is that because you support lies or because you agree with Libby's politics?

But I do have something to say. I said Libby should be punished.

Those who are convicted of breaking the law should be punished. I think Libby should have done some real time but I'm torn on libby's sentence.
Please don't misrepresent my position.
