The chance to rectify the tactical errors of 2000 (that cost Gore votes in Florida before the chad hanging could be an issue) was in 2004. A different set of tactical political errors were chosen as a strategy.

Election reform? Required: enforce positive identification to preclude people casting multiple ballots.

Not required: computer based voting. The old mark sense ballots we use in Texas work just fine. No need to polish the turd. It is OK to wait a day or two to find out the results. A paper record is a worthwhile back up.

Required: each felon who wants to reinstate his/her right to vote should do so in accordance with the rules and laws of the state he/she lives in.

Not required: blanket felony pardons for voting rights loss.

Required: Count Every F___ing vote. I don't care if it takes two more days, no need to pander to short attention spans.

Not Required: sampling of ballots to determine results.

But which one is this?

I believe it's dangerous when people just pass off these types of things as someone being a nutcase.

And I believe it's dangerous when nutcases are believed without question.

If whistleblowers can't feel comfortable coming forward then how many will just keep it to themselves?

If lunatics are subject to mockery, how many will just keep it to themselves?

How many Americans would really stand up to this type of thing? There were clearly problems with the last two elections but nothing really was done.

Find me a truly rigged election, and I'll tell you that hanging's too good for the guys who did it, and I think most other people feel the same way. That's the key, you see. I don't think you could get away with real, honest to goodness, vote fraud, on an election for anything more important than precinct committteman. But, as I said, talk me into it. I'm open minded. Show me some evidence.

Darth was right. If Curtis is telling the truth, his story will be backed by corroborating evidence. If not, we'll look back on him as someone who says he saw a second voter on the grassy gnoll.
