Well you know they say the France was the birthplace of modern diplomacy.
What that means is that no one means what they say and no one says what they mean. AKA lying by misuse of language.

I suspect Monsieur Chirac would offer the traditional French response , that being one raises one's nose and sniffs for effect.

I don't know if I'm one of the usual band of idiots or not but let me express my personal mockery and disapproval at this.

This should not have happened. I'm astounded that it did. Utterly astounded. I'm hoping (beyond hope) that this is (only) the result of someone that didn't do their homework; that someone didn't work out the details with the host nation.

Not only should this incident be investigated (privately) but some several persons should, at the very least, be fired and/or more harshly reckoned with; although I don't know what nationalities those persons are I'm guessing a few, or more than a few, of each.

I'm surprised others don't see this as the potentially disasterous event that I think it was.

Chirac, quite possibly, would have acted the same way, basically saying "what the hell are you guys doing, he's with me." (of course there are a bunch of surrender jokes waiting to be cracked because Chirac is a member of the most reviled enemy the American people have ever known...the French)

This doesn't seem like much of a story but GWB handled it well.

Dunno. I sincerely wish that he would have kept his trap shut for another week or two.

I'm just glad GW didn't haul off and paste a furriner in the heat of the moment.

... actually, that would have been pretty damn funny. Imagine one of those 3 Stooges pie throwing fights with 26 world leaders participating. Maybe the world could use something like that.

I consider myself a Merry Idiot(tm) too, BTW.

Several here have no nose. Try to stay on topic. Just as a favor to me...not that you owe me one...but if you do I might owe you one.
 
Actually, if Bush is so keen to mix it up in close, perhaps him and Kim Jong Il over 15 rounds, Queensbury Rules, loser to dismantle all their nukes, might save a heck of a lot of hot air over the next 12 months??
 
The Brits did something similar a few years ago. Because there had been several shootings in London, the the Brits asked the secret service not to carry guns. :crazy:

I don't understand that logic, and neither did the Pres. The Brits finally caved.

It's the first thing I've seen or head of Bush doing for which I have respect.
 
Bush acted quickly and appropriately in this instance. Just because I don't particularly like Bush doesn't mean I can't admit to myself that he's capable of doing some things right.
 
Looks like Bush is still wearing his little prompting device under his jacket...slightly different place though...more upper right shoulder. Hope it didn`t get damaged...anyone hear his speech or anything after this incident? Was it worse than usual?:p
