Bumper sticker. . .(shudder)

Regarding comma use, some say, it can be overdone with gusto, and those that say so almost never appreciate the semicolon-underuse companion trait, under which many separate statements could be submitted to some healthy editing; those that overuse the comma might underuse the semicolon, and to them the prose of Dr. Johnson or Mr. Swift become endless paragraphs, some of which take on the character of never-ending sentences, only begging to be terminated, no, shall we say killed unto death and eternal flame, if only the author remembered how to use the "ring finger" on the right hand to simply type what the English might call a "full stop" (a very English term, as in "Ranking Full Stop" by some Brit Band, maybe the Boomtown Rats or English Beat, sort of Ska sounding).

Well, here's one thing we do agree on, chooky.

I was reaching for the dog after nominating the same piece, then I see you nominated it 30 minutes earlier. (And used my dog!)

Great minds think alike?

Fools seldom differ!

Oh well I never said I was a theologian. I just see that people have made idols of so many things (like their jobs and other people), and it seems too many have forgotten all about the one true God. It's really not okay.

Graven images must mean things more that are false Gods like buddahs. I use to think buddahs were cute but people have made that their God and it is a graven image so what do you say about that?

Oh I forgot I also through away a necklace I had bought years ago of ISIS. She is a graven image too. People do still buy into a lot of the wrong images of God or spirituality and I do speak from seeing some of the mistakes I made in the past by liking some of those things. I guess you could say I repented of enjoying some of the graven images people can allow in their life. I believe it really does hurt God when we buy into the wrong things like that.

Back to the bumper sticker idea..."ignorance is not bliss!" And when we talk about things like education don't get me wrong there is definitely things we do benefit from having a higher education, but if people make that their highest priority then they in my opinion have made that their God, which isn't okay.

What a sweet and loving god.

Mate. I admire your honesty in sharing your background with us and I admire your never-say-die attitude, but this kind of stuff isn't attacking anyone's god, it's attacking the human race's inability to provide for its least successful members. Instead of posting pics about it in a vain attempt to make some of the shame of that child stick to Huntster's god, do something about it yourself. (If you're not already; if you are, then I salute you for that, too.)

(Commas and semi-colons ok?)

Hey all, I only jumped in with the "comma" post because it's sort of ridiculous, after all, to make a big deal about mode of expression in certain places. I like to be careful when I post, because I've had the training in my native English and am fairly rightously peevish with the new "discourse" when it don't follow no rules.

Please forgive but I have not followed the detailed theology lately. It sounds like kathy is rightous and condescending, to me. She likely has very good personal reasons for this, yet these reasons may not be based on the widely shared truths/facts of others. So it goes.

Apparently you didn’t even bother to read what was written in your bible. Did you not notice the means of production was given to the group (collective ownership).
Once again, show me.
Well, if your reading skills really are that bad and you can’t be bothered to actually read the supplied bit in context or bother to cross reference it with other parts of the bible, specifically the NT. Then how am I supposed to show you when it’s quiet apparent for all to see that you’ve mastered the art of sticking your fingers in your ears and whining show me, show me, show me until others quit in disgust.
Here is a novel concept, why not actually read the bible for yourself? Oh, wait you’re catholic. Why not go to your local priest and sit at his feat as he tells you bible stories until you feel better. That way you don’t actually have to read and you get brownie points for spending time with the priest. One other bit of advise, don’t volunteer to be an alter boy.

Maybe that's because you don't understand the power of sacrifice.
There you go misusing words again.

Sacrifice
1. the offering of animal, plant, or human life or of some material possession to a deity, as in propitiation or homage.
2. the person, animal, or thing so offered.
3. the surrender or destruction of something prized or desirable for the sake of something considered as having a higher or more pressing claim.
4. the thing so surrendered or devoted.
5. a loss incurred in selling something below its value.

So exactly how was Jr.’s bad weekend a sacrifice? He didn’t actually give up anything. He didn’t suffer as much as others throughout history. To whom was the sacrifice made?

If your heart is so jaded that you can't believe then I feel sorry for you Paul. God is a God of love but people on this forum have tried to make Him something else. It's just a shame there are so many people choosing to believe Satans lies.
I suppose it would have been nice to have that choice. However the bible reports that we don’t actually have a choice in this life as god picks those to be saved.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-13
Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

It was a neat post. Fowl is just using anything he can to denigrate me.

It's a personal thing.

Because I'm waiting for you in particular to "quite in disgust"?

Here is a novel concept, why not actually read the bible for yourself?

I've done so, and more times than I can remember.

Oh, wait you’re catholic.

Yup. And you're not.

Why not go to your local priest and sit at his feat as he tells you bible stories until you feel better.

How about if I go to my local priest and sit, and he can tell me bible stories as a feat?

That way you don’t actually have to read and you get brownie points for spending time with the priest.

Are "brownie points" negotiable instruments?

One other bit of advise, don’t volunteer to be an alter boy.

I was an altar boy for years. I still serve small Masses when altar servers aren't available, and love every moment of it.

1) He sacrificed his life so that, if you would believe, your sins might be forgiven.

He didn’t actually give up anything.

May I scourge you with a flagrum, pound you about your face with my fists, push a crown of thorns down on your scalp, then crucify you to see if your opinion changes?

He didn’t suffer as much as others throughout history.

I would almost say that he didn't suffer as much as I do when I waste time with you.

Ah, but what I actually wrote was:
Then how am I supposed to show you when it’s quiet apparent for all to see that you’ve mastered the art of sticking your fingers in your ears and whining show me, show me, show me until others quit in disgust.
Good thing I’m not an other.

Oops, meant to use feet not feat. But it does give a nice 3.5 image.

1) He sacrificed his life so that, if you would believe, your sins might be forgiven.
According to the bible he did not. Jr came back to life, not a sacrifice. Jr didn’t remain in hell but ascended to heaven, again not a sacrifice.

May I scourge you with a flagrum, pound you about your face with my fists, push a crown of thorns down on your scalp, then crucify you to see if your opinion changes?
Sure, just as soon as I starve you for months, force you to watch you children being repeatedly raped to the point of death, murder your wife in front of you and use her skin as parchment, daily beatings, forced labor and finally stuff you and your closest friends in a gas chamber.

The bible is the source of our information that your god is evil. Is that "Satans Lies"?

It is more a shame that people like you can come up with anything you want to write people off. It reminds me of the old witch hunts, when they would throw a tied up woman into the river to see if she was a witch. If she sank and drowned she was not a witch and her soul would go to heaven. If she did not sink, she would be burned at the stake and her now cleansed by the fire soul would go to heaven. Either way she was killed by so-called people to faith. You guys just can’t lose with something that can’t be proved or disproved. You just throw out some good sounding BS and call it a win, without once proving or having to prove a so-call god, other then using the words “I Believe”, what an easy copout.

First of all I don't right anyone off. I believe in miracles, that's because I am one. God has revealed Himself to me and so many others but you guys just choose to invalidate it and not even try to obtain or grasp the meaning of what faith is.
Faith is not just a noun, it's a verb too. We believe and then act so it is truly alive in each believers heart. We are not just hearers of the Word, but Doers.

Don't invalidate Christianity is all I have been trying to say to others here.

As was previously pointed out to Huntster, "faith" is not a verb. There is not one dictionary I have ever seen that lists faith as a verb.

Secondly you are not a miracle, you are a judgemental shrew using the bible as a club to beat your point into people's head.

Faith (and or) belief does not equal Fact. Faith can be many things and believing in a god is only a very small part of that word. We do grasp the meaning of faith as you see it, as we grasp the meaning of faith in Santa Clause as children see it. Many of us have believe in a god until see seen the light, and found out that this so-called god only lived in our head and was nothing to do with the reality of the world. Like I have said before, isn’t it funny how your idea of god it exactly like you think it should be, that you know all there is to know about your god, that you know how it thinks, that my friend is because you just fooling yourself and your so-call god only lives in you head. You see miracles wherever you need to see them, and if this miracle is yourself, so be it, if it works for you so be it. I had seen the light of a world without the need for a so-called god when I was about seven and haven’t looked back. One of the biggest reasons is because religious people lie about the world to back up their belief in a so-called god. They lie about the world when facts don’t suit their idea of a so-called god. They can’t face up to evolution, they the universe is so big when they are so small. So they create a so-called god in their image because their image of themselves is so small. Also they love the idea of the devil because it gives them an out, a way discredit what they do not want to be truth. Sorry you don’t what the truth because you can’t handle the truth. (I know is was a quote in a movie) but the underlining thing is that they can’t, it isn’t pretty to them and they can’t handle it, so they need a so-called god to give their life meaning when it already has meaning and it doesn’t need a fairytale to make it have one.

I was so hoping you'd finish that with

"Kiss me, Kate!"

since she calls herself Kathy.

I realize not everyone likes Shakespeare the way I do.

Desperately seeking a paragraph . . .

Sorry you don’t what the truth because you can’t handle the truth. (I know is was a quote in a movie)
That line was one of Jack Nicholson's more memorable, and quotable, lines. :) A Few Good Men is the film, his foil Tom Cruise's character.

If you have not seen the film, it is a decent one for a rental. It deals in Gitmo before anyone thought to put a prison there, and the problems of cover ups.

Have you looked it up in the hebrew and greek? I think you call it in the active participle form but my english terminolgy is way old from what I remember learning in High School.

Secondly you are not a miracle, you are a judgemental shrew using the bible as a club to beat your point into people's head.
I almost overdosed and it was God that kept me alive dude.If you choose not to believe me that's your problem. It really was a near death experience and I came face to face with my demons and now know it's because of Christ anyone get set free and saved. Life & Salvation are miracles!

So, you almost died (sorry you went thru that), but if any medical care was given, your saying that it didn’t help you and your not dieing had nothing to do with their help. And if you did die, your loving god wouldn’t let you into heaven, I thought it was a loving so-called god. Also isn’t heaven the place to be in the first place, so where would be the loss there.

So now are you also saying that you can’t give yourself any credit for your recovery, you don’t think you’re big enough to do that. Because if there was a so-called god, it was that so-called god who failed you to begin with. I don’t have to throw my child into the fire to prove to him I was right about the fire’s heat.

My wife had cancer, I made sure she got the treatment she needed, and never ask any so-called god for help, for if you really think about it, it would be this so-called god’s fault that she got cancer to begin with. After all, according to you, your so-called god made her body and it was defective because it allowed cancer to start.

Paul

:) :) :)

Also give yourself and others around you more credit than you do.
