Bumper sticker. . .(shudder)

I was going to respond to Azure, but I read Anacoluthon64’s post and decided to step back. I doubt I’ve ever been described as kind-hearted.

Better a harsh truth than a comforting lie.

Going back through my posts, the only hypocracy that 'might' exist is that fact that I 'try' to stay neutral in religious debates.

I appreciate people that have a firm belief in their "god" but nowhere have I tired to influence my belief upon others.

Azure, whether you like it or not, your actions will influence people's opinion regarding God, your God, and what they think your opinion of God is. Trust me: You don't have to be Fred Phelps to provide people with a negative view of God, nor do you have to be Billy Graham to have the opposite effect.

Then that is 'their' problem.

You want to talk about my faith? Sure, I would willingly share what my faith means to me. But I won't spam threads with that same information, when it is obvious most disagree with me.

That 'last' thing I want to do is to get into a religious flame war.

I appreciate your understanding. :)

I wasn't necessarily excluding you from that group, but I certainly absented myself from it. If there's a twinkle in your eye while reading this, you'll also know why, and I am safe in the knowledge that we're on the same page here.

Faith is not the same as expectation. A "believer" once argued that when I turn on a light switch I have faith that the light will come on. This is not faith, it's expectation based on previous experience of the event and some knowledge of the workings of the event. Part of my expectation is also that the light will not always come on due to the bulb being blown, power cut, etc.

Now if the bulb were unscrewed, lying on the table with a broken filament and you still believed the switch would illuminate it, that would be faith.

Steven

If it was pitch dark moonless night it would then be blind faith.

Paul

:) :) :)

However, if the bulb failed to work regardless of Clapton and Winwood's efforts, the reasonable man can be expected to end up with faith no more.

Kathy, I'd rather burn in hell than spend eternity in paradise full of religious people. For me, hell would be spending eternity with self-righteous people who don't think, but don't let that stop them from voicing their half-formed opinions as loudly and as often as possible, while ignoring overwhelming evidence that they are wrong. Bring on the brimstone.

Then for you, Hell would be Heaven, which is a hell of a thing, since you wanted to be in Hell?

Uh-oh! If I'm good I go to heaven, which will be hell for me, and if I'm bad, I'll go to hell, which for me will be heaven. Indeed a hell of a thing!

kathy, you can't even get a single convert on this forum.
That's rich.
The number of people converted to Christianity on a secularist's internet web forum is a measure of what merit?

Predicted: 0
Achieved: 0
K_K's relevance to that: non existent, as is her credibility on much of anything

IMO, one of the dumbest things one could try to do on the internet is, via that medium, bring someone to Christ. I suppose it has been done, but the human touch, interpersonal interaction in the flesh, tends to be far more effective.

Or maye I am old Fashioned and out of date, K-K has a quota, sales are slipping, and she's desperate.

Indeed.

Back to bumper stickers, my two all time favorites

1. In large letters on the back of a red pickup truck: "Hey you, outta the gene pool!"

2. "Honk if you want to test my marksmanship."

And don't even compare my faith to something like a cult.
Main Entry: cult
Pronunciation: 'k&lt
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: French & Latin; French culte, from Latin cultus care, adoration, from colere to cultivate -- more at WHEEL
1 : formal religious veneration : WORSHIP
2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>
5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : the object of such devotion c : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion

Seems your religion certainly fits into definitions 1, 2 and 5. What makes it not a cult? The fact that you believe in it and don't believe in the ones you call cults?

A life without God is no life at all!
Sorry that you feel you can judge my life as being "no life at all," but I consider my life to be full and rich and wonderful. Just because you need an imaginary friend to give your life meaning, doesn't mean we all do. Many of us rely on ourselves and our loved ones to find all the meaning we need.

That's rich.

Quite. But she claimed she can do all things through Christ. I was just pointing out her total lack of superpowers.

Sure. And yet, many people do it. I guess the moral is there's nothing so stupid that some idiots won't try it.

There's always a quota, and she's always desperate to save us from the fires of hell.

Biblical evidence, which, considering that he belief is centered around faith, is the only sort of evidence that she COULD provide.
Quoting the bible is no sort of evidence of anything. Quoting an old book to prove something is utterly meaningless. Can I quote The Odyssey as proof that there are cylopses (cyclopsi?)?

Well, she means well, that's got to count for something.

The road to where is paved with what? Darn, it was on the tip of my tongue . . .
