Brexit: the referendum

~Yes John,I don't like darkies and I want them out.

The reality that none of them will say.

That's an incredibly small minded position that belongs left on the shelves of "Sweeping Generalisations R Us"

I voted leave, and I am FOR immigration. I see no problem with free movement of people between EU countries, immigration helps the economy.

Though I voted leave ultimately because I want the UK to have more control over UK laws, and I don't believe the doomsayers saying that the economy will be wrecked if we vote to leave.

Well you will see the start of it tomorrow. The market will speak.

Now you may not have been swayed by the immigration issue, but what do you think of its influence? I think it's very significant, and fuelled by latent racism.

For those who voted Leave, are you comfortable with Farage speaking for you? Because that's exactly what he's doing.

He said "this has been done without a bullet being fired". Apart from one of course.

Scum.

Maybe I misread.

This might seem a tad whacky but, believe it or not, I don't want an argument.

Well feel free to disagree with me without arguing then. I'm a big boy I can take it.

Hey at the end of the day if you can look yourself in the mirror and celebrate with Farage and Bojo then good luck to you.

Yeah, that's horrible. Tone deaf at best.

He also said it was a victory for decent people (and real people) - I don't think I like being called not decent. Or imaginary.

Steady at 51% Leave with 2/3 of the vote counted says Brussels is sending you a good-bye letter tomorrow.

It's at times like these I'd like to be a christian so I could pray and at least think some sky-daddy will fix it up.

Insanity.

I blame Baby Boomers and grey hairs.

Apart from Susan!

Bojo may well be the next PM. A clown in Downing St. Can he possibly be joined by a clown in the White House?

Meanwhile the pound is at its lowest level since 1985. Just the start of catastrophic economic consequences for the UK.

The markets are going to be more volatile than a toddler that's recently taken leave of it's toys. I think things will calm down in a couple of months. Assuming of course that the result goes in the direction it seems to be going at present.

Now you may not have been swayed by the immigration issue, but what do you think of its influence? I think it's very significant, and fuelled by latent racism.

I'd agree. I really didn't like the tone of the debate on both sides. The £350m figure the leave side were quoting was hogwash, and the economic apocalypse warnings of the remain side equally so. I voted the same way as lots of far right racists and bigots and 'Little Englanders', and I hate being associated with those people and their arguments

I think that one lesson that might come out of this is that running an election campaign based upon the politics of fear is not the best way to do it.

It's still too close to call. I was expecting by now that Remain would have had a substantial lead, but it's still nigh on 50/50.

Ridiculous that NOBODY is prepared to come out and argue that LEAVE might be wrong. Waiting for instruction from their betters.

Cameron is conspicuous by his absence.

Christ, the UKIP being acclaimed? A shameful day.

And for those who are wondering why an Aussie is so pissed off. I love the UK, and in particularly the way it has made multiculturalism work. Against racist undertones. Which have now been given affirmation.

Also I'm pissed off at the way my shares will drop. Unnecessarily.

Well, I'm going to call it a done deal. The Leave lead is increasing, currently on 51.1%, so the later results are favouring the Brexit and it's all over.

Gold now up $50 on yesterday. Shanghai down 1.3%.
