Cont: Brexit: Now What? Part 6. Pick up sticks...

Finding ships with the trailer capacity needed and the beam narrow enough to operate in the chosen dock will not be so easy.
Add the fact that the dock hasn't been used for years and will need dredging and refurbishing. All in three months?

What they need are RoRo ferries for trailers, not car and passenger ferries. They are not easy to come by.

This too. Seriously makes me wonder what was behind the granting of this contract.

The thing that seems odd to me is that they claim to have done due diligence and yet they physically can't have since the company has no history. In my experience every public sector contract has always required 2 or 3 years of financial history to be provided as part of the bidding process. This leads me to believe this contract was awarded for 1 of 2 equally bad reasons:

1. It's fraud and has been awarded to friends of those in charge of awarding the contract

2. Every more established company has told them what they want is not possible and this is the only company willing to say yes to what they have been asked to deliver. I wonder what penalty clauses have been built into the contract if they fail to deliver - and what difference it would make anyway to a business with 50 quid in the bank!

It is claimed by the govt that there isn't enough time to do a proper tendering.

I'd suggest it's a particularly nasty mix of (1) being facilitated by (2) and that whatever happens we will see either increased costs for a poorer service or a complete crash out in which we end up paying some proportion of the costs but get nothing back. Either way I'll bet the directors do okay out of it...

And the beauty of the LLP is the Directors won't be expected to foot the bills.

Or hadn't had Article 50 forced on them by that nasty United States of Eur....

Oh, hang on a minute.....

The lack of basic competency is terrifying.

If the EUSSR had just acknowledged the supremacy of the UK and given them everything they want for free then they'd probably still be there.

I'm not sure who was worse, the Leave campaigners who claimed the EU would basically do this and knew it wasn't true, or those who really thought the EU would throw all its rules out of the window to accommodate the UK.

The transport secretary said he would “make no apologies for supporting a new British business” after widespread criticism of the award of the contract to the British firm Seaborne Freight, which has never previously operated a similar service.

“It’s a new start-up business, government is supporting new British business and there is nothing wrong with that,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

“We have looked very carefully at this business, we have put in place a tight contract that makes sure they can deliver for us. I don’t see any problem with supporting a new British business.”

This government is totally Bolshevist.

Translation of Grayling's words:

"Oh ****! Oh my, how we've totally ****** this. Better say something plausible and hope the kerfuffle over this cockup gets lost in the general noise"

;)

Funny, I translated it as "How dare you jumped up proles complain about us handing your tax money to our mates"

Perhaps it's a dialect thing?

Well, don't you know its the god given right of Tories and their mates to make money off the back of the Brexit debacle they created?
