Cont: Brexit: Now What? 7th heaven...

EU Commission's First Vice-President, Frans Timmermans is pretty scathing about the Brits' Leave plans. He claims David Davies didn't have any. He says, in an interview due to be broadcast Thursday in BBC's Panorama:

If he thought Davies was 'like an idiot' heaven knows what he must have thought of Chris Grayling and his planned ferry boats Dunkirk-style to Bruges.

Well, at least it could be loosely called a 'plan', even if totally stark staring bonkers.

Let's just do it and be legends, man.

Boris lies about EU rules. Again.

BBC News: Is Boris Johnson right about the rules on kippers?

"Claim: EU regulations require kipper suppliers to keep their products cool with ice pillows when they are delivered.

Verdict: This is not true. EU regulation covers fresh fish, not smoked fish. The UK's Food Standard Agency says food manufacturers must transport food so it is fit to eat. This might require a "cool bag"....

The EU does have rules on temperature controls when transporting fresh fish. These are in place to ensure food is safe to consume.

However, when it comes to smoked products, such as kippers, it is up to national governments to set any rules.

Food safety regulations in the UK are dealt with by the Food Standards Agency."

So, yet again, blaming the EU for something that is entirely within the remit of UK authorities.

And something eminently sensible - warm fish in the post is *not* a good thing

To be fair to ceptimus, that's not really how it works.
He can't possibly prove that, at least not without a pointless amount of work.

The onus is, really, on you to show it was in use.

As for me, as I said earlier, I don;t actually see the importance of whether it existed before or after the referendum. I really don't see what's gained or lost either way. Strikes me as a complete distraction.

Ceptimus could have done the simple checks others did and if there was no trace of the terms before the referendum, then the claim was valid. As it turns out, the claim was false and the terms were in use before the referendum.

That hard and soft brexit were in use prior to the referendum, is a clear indication of the uncertainty that has dogged brexit ever since.

So of course MPs voted by a comfortable margin for the amendment to block any attempt to suspend Parliament to ram through a No Deal Brexit, isn't parliamentary sovereignty a wonderful thing? I'm sure all the Brexiteers will be delighted to see the sovereignty they were so adamant they were fighting for in action...

Got half-way through last night's Panorama before getting exasperated at David Davis coming across as even more of massive bellend than I previously thought (which was impressive), and switching off.

He seemed obsessed with the idea that everything the EU negotiators did was a calculated attempt to make him personally look stupid, even though it was clear that that was all his own doing. The final straw was when someone on the British side suggested that getting Barnier to do a press conference from a chair with notes, rather than behind a lectern, while Davis had learned his script beforehand, was some sort of PR coup. It came across like a bunch of naughty sixth formers thinking they'd got one over the headmaster.

I regret being unable to enjoy the schadenfreude of watching programmes like this knowing these clowns are dragging the rest of us to hell with them.

Davis doesn't need any help to look like a massive dolt, but I wonder if he eventually realised that it wasn't the job of the opposite side in the negotiations to make him look good.

Given that Leavers insist that it's up to Remoaners to work and find a great Brexit deal on the grounds that Leavers have already done all the heavy lifting in getting the Leave vote across the line - I'd say no.

Once again I am reminded of the person I encountered on Quora who - in reaction to me casually referring to DD as making a pig's ear of the negotiations - assured me that he was in fact a brilliant and experienced negotiator, and that I was probably someone who had never been involved in negotiations or professional discussions of any monetary worth in my life*, and so knew nothing.

* I admit, merely in the low millions, not that they actually knew that.

A brilliant and experienced negotiator would not whine about the other side having made him look bad because a brilliant and experienced negotiator would not allow them the opportunity to do so in the first place, thanks to both his brilliance and his experience.

A lazy idiot might, though.

I have this mental image of DD marching into the negotiating room, immediately stepping into the waste paper basket and getting it stuck on his foot, going to sit down to prise it off and being surprised by the chair being on casters leading to him falling on his backside them storming out of the the room. Straight into the stationery cupboad.

Sadly the truth is less humorous and more embarrassing.

Now we will have a PM who's only measurable skill is apparently reading scripts that make him appear to be able to improvise witty speeches.

This is the cover page of Der Spiegel. Sums it up pretty well...

Before today’s EP votes, various people had warned me what it would be like. I assumed they exaggerated. They didn’t. Seconds to vote on subjects from Hong Kong to Venezuela. What a system, no time to breathe, let alone think, between each issue.

Now she knows what the iPad they gave her is for.

Do you think she realised that being an MEP is supposed to be a full time job?

If her only impression of being an MEP is watching Nigel Farrage come and go as he pleases, can you blame her for thinking otherwise?

Imagine having so few arguments left in favour of your ****** project that you have to claim a cricket match won by a team full of immigrants led by an Irish captain is somehow proof that we don’t need Europe
