Merged Breast cancer screening 'damaging women'

seems to me the real question is: If YOUR screening came back cancerous would you take the chance that you are in the 75% or the 25%?

Not to mention that as Doctors are liable for negligence if they make an improper diagnosis you can hardly blame them for aggressive treatment.

I had a couple of benign lumps removed from each breast in my late 20s. In my late 30s, I had a mammogram during which the radiologist saw something on my left breast, which was exactly where scar tissue from the lump-removal should have been. Radiologist insisted it didn't look like scar tissue & did a biopsy, which showed, surprise, it was scar tissue. The downside is that this biopsy caused me to develop lymphedema in my left arm & I have to wear a stupid compression sleeve for the rest of my life. I consider this damage & am very angry.

I'm sorry for your misfortune. All these experts just don't get it that a lot of medicine is little more than EDUCATED guesswork.

They don't understand that any intrusion into the body can cause problems.
I've read that prostate biopsies can also cause problems.

In Western societies, one of the most common causes of lymphedema is removal of the breast (mastectomy) and underarm lymph tissue for breast cancer. This causes lymphedema of the arm in 10 - 15% of patients, because the lymphatic drainage of the arm passes through the armpit (axilla).

15%???? That's just one complication!

I've never read a newspaper article that enlightened the public of the non-cosmetic complications.
