The two Italian girls that were kidnapped in Iraq 25 days ago were a few minutes ago released and they are at the moment at the Italian Embassy in Baghdad.

There are no news about the terrorists who have held the 2 Italians but the Italian Intelligence had worked a lot in the previous days.
The terrorists have asked PM Berlusconi to pull out the Italian troops from Iraq as request for their released but PM Berlusconi has rejected always any request to deal with the terrorists. At the opposite, yesterday Italy has decided to send 1.100 more soldiers in Iraq.

Italy has received the total support of the moderat arab countries and from the United States and right today the King of Jordany and the Pakistani President Musharaf are in Rome where they have been to bring to the Rome's government the solidarity of the moderat arab world.

It's anyway the second goal by the Italian secret services in a few months. The last june the Italian special forces in cooperation with the US have released in Baghdad other 3 Italians.

A few minutes ago while the Chamber of Deputies was discussing the federal reform of the Constitution, PM Berlusconi has adressed the MPs to inform them about the release of the 2 Italians.

"This is a great days for our country and it's a great day for the free world", Berlusconi has said, "we have always belived it was possible to obtain their release without accepting the requests by the fanatic and barbarian terrorists", Berlusconi has added.

Tomorrow a special C-130 of the Italian airforces will bring back at home the 2 Italians, while the Opposition has expressed to Berlusconi their gratitude for how the PM has followed the crisis.

BRAVO SILVIO! ;)

Congradulations! I share your joy at the release of your countrymen!

I am joyful too. It is about time they stopped spilling innocent blood.

It seems they don't like Americans at all. They have killed all our hostages.

Unfortunately in the last 5 months they have killed 2 Italian hostages as well. :(

Have they? I missed that.

Just to be clear: I wasn't trying to trivialize anyone who has been killed by these people.

I know the killed at least one Italian because I remember reading that on the video he said something like "Let me show you how an Italian dies" before they shot him. It's awful that these executions are going on but I have to say that given that such things are going to occur anyway it was heartening to see someone spending their last moments in defiance instead of groveling. I'm not in their position so I can't say for sure I'd do the same and it must feel awful to be in their predicament but I doubt that their fate is related to their behavior while in captivity and if someone is going to kill you anyway there doesn't seem to be any point in kissing their ass right up until the end.

I don't understand what they think they will gain. America's resolve was strengthen by the 9/11 attacks. The political climate in America was different before the attacks. Without the attacks we probably never would have gone to Afghanistan or Iraq.

The video of our citizens being beheaded will no doubt encourage us to do more. I think that is reflected in their change of demands.

If this turns out to be true its good news indeed. I think being female could have a lot to do with it. Muslim fundamentalist males generally have a very patronising attitude towards women...There would have been a fair bit of pressure from many people to release them simply based on thier gender.

Maybe the fact that Italy paid a million bucks ransom had something to do with it too.

I'm happy they were released, but would have been even happier if they'd been rescued instead and the kidnappers sent off to meet their 72 virgins.

ooops.

Yes, we NEVER negotiate with terrorists apart from when we do.

Yes, I just read about the money but it still seems probable to me that because they are women the ransom became a possibility. Nobody seemed too keen on a money ransom for any of the other victims so far....Fanatics are rarely motivated by money, it seems to me that the ransom thing is probably just a wedge to drive into the "nobody negotiates" unified response (unified up till now anyway). I think it is just plain stupid to pay ransoms or give any concessions to kidnappers.

Oh great now even more people are going to get into the hostage taking thing.

A million bucks can buy anywhere from 5000 to 10 000 RPG's in Iraq. I bet the American forces are happy to hear about Berlusconi's part in the war on terrar.

The Italian Government has payed ANYTHING to those bandits.

The ransom issue was, i don't know why, enphatized firstly by the french yesterday and then the usual left-wing BBC (and CNN) have reported it. But not the fact it was denied.

Regarding Gustavo Selva, tonight it was reported by adnkronos a very strong declaration he has made regarding the french media he was speaking with. According to Mr Selva, the french media have cut some important part of his sentences, giving a very different version of his tought. Selva has confirmed that anyway even if a ransom was payed, he was surely one of the last people who could know that.

"Gustavo Selva denies to have ever spoken about a ransom. The French tv should have modified the meaning of his words"

Gustavo Selva, Alleanza Nazionale's MP, has strongly rejected what it was reported today by a french tv and a french radio about a ransom that Italy could have payed for the release of Simona Pari and Simona Torretta. "I've never said i knew it was payed a ransom", attacks Mr Selva, "the truth is that when the french tv shows my interview beginning with '..payed a ransom' they have cut the real sense of the words i said previously 'i don't belive, i don't know if it was..', continues Mr Selva.
"I'm a journalist, but this it was a really bad example of bad information", has closed Mr Selva.

(AGR)

It was very important to have watched Rai 1 yesterday evening where the Italian Interior Minister has made public the affair. It was perfectely reported on how the facts were.

It was a great diplomatic job made, as i said before, by the intelligence of Italy, USA, Jordany, Lebanon and Egypt under the coordination of our SISMI.

http://www.serviziinformazionesicurezza.gov.it/pdcweb.nsf/pagine/sismi

The key for the solution it was the foiled terrorist attack to the Italian embassy in Beirut (Lebanon), attack foiled by our secret services in cooperation with the Lebaneses. 5 terrorists were arrested and one of them has died 3 days ago in jail. The director of SISMI didn't want to confirm because of security reasons, but it seamed the groups (that were not professional) that has held the 2 Simona and that was projecting the attack against the Italian embassy, they were linked.

The success of the operation according to the Italian Minister of the Interiors and the Director of SISMI is thanks to the cooperation with the moderat Arab world and between the Intelligence of Italy and the USA.
For this reason, the last week after to have met our Minister Frattini at the UN, the US Secretary of State Colin Powell said that a solution for the 2 Italians it was near.
According to the Minister, it was possible even a military Blitz by our Special Forces that were ready to act like in june of this year, but it was a too high risk.
The Minister has confirmed that every decision was taken personally by Berlusconi that was in touch almost daily with Bush, but this is a clear success of the intelligence, the cooperation of the intelligence and the moderat Arab world.

Case Closed. ;)
