It's about time The Hub of the Universe got its very own skeptical event: a monthly Skeptics in the Pub event based on London's popular lecture series. We'll be starting off with Mike the Mad Biologist from ScienceBlogs, and it's sure to be a blast. I hope some JREFfers can make it!

Oh, I've also set up a Boston Skeptics blog to keep all this info in a handy place.

Looks sooooo good, even Nature are giving it a shout-out.

  • Skeptics in the pub—coming to Boston

In London, a group of people have been gathering once a month for the past nine years to talk skeptically about pseudoscience, the paranormal, alternative medicine, etc. They are appropriately called Skeptics in the Pub (judging from their list of recent speakers, they seem to be duly skeptical. To learn more, check out this article from Nature Network London) and it’s gone international, with similar events happening in Sydney, Vancouver, and now—Boston!

  • Boston Skeptics is hosting its first event March 24. They describe themselves as: a group of critical thinkers who get together to talk, eat, drink, and be skeptical about things like homeopathy, creationism, psychics, aliens, alternative medicine, conspiracy theories, and whatever else catches our attention.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make this after all. My mom is going in for heart surgery on Monday and I'll be in Connecticut. Have fun everyone!

Aw, sorry you can't make it supercorgi, I was looking forward to seeing you again. I hope everything goes well for your mom.

I'd just like to make a quick request...I started another thread elsewhere to discuss the fact that I'll be starting a skeptic organization in China (so far as I'm aware, the first one), and plan to organize similar events. I'd appreciate it if those who have organized or attended such events in their own town/country might pop over to that thread and give me some advice?

Thanks!

Bump, event is tonight!

Wolfman: I didn't respond to your thread because Sid appears to have covered anything I could offer. He's my resource for getting this Skeptics in the Pub up and running....

I thought it was just because you're a Bad Mamma Jamma ;)

So, when'll you be coming over to China for a visit? We could schedule you in one of our meetings, I'm sure :-) You've even inspired me for our organization's name...

...you've got SkepChick...and we'll have...

...wait for it...

...SkepChink!!!

(My Chinese friends all thought this was hilarious, my foreign friends generally wanted to beat me about the head for saying it)

As soon as you buy me a ticket!

I'd love to visit China one day, but no clue when, sadly.

Hmm, maybe when you use that, don't mention your inspiration!
