I was given to understand that the invasion was mostly people having a laugh, rather than anything that people were sincerely planning to do.

There's at least one serious person there. No one would Naruto run on live TV unless they had an urgent need to get somewhere.

Seems that he's more of a conman than simply a nutter.

There's even something interesting about the circumstances around the death of his second wife, which seems curious and was ruled a suicide with what seems to be a quick investigation. It's not enough to reach any firm conclusion about that, but does seem suspicious.
