Bob Dole has died

I'm going to give him the "body of work" excuse on that one. We have no idea what his mental state was at that point.
Well in the article I referenced it mentions he "defended Nixon". Unfortunately it doesn't go into detail, but it certainly suggests his support of "scummy behavior" started long before Trump.

Trumpism didn't come out of a vacuum. Today's insane and destructive GOP stands on the shoulders of all who came before it. I find it hard to forgive anybody in that line of succession.

I will always remember Bob Dole most fondly for his appearance on Family Guy.

I heard he had something to do with politics too.

He was in his 90s. I'll give him a break on Trump.

He was a piece of **** in his younger days too, publicly backing Big Tobacco and disputing that nicotine was addictive.

Dude is like a villain straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon. Absurdly evil individual, so of course he lived a long life.

Don't worry, they are not getting a pass from me either.
You're probably right, and maybe I should withdraw my comment, though I would still consider his pro-trump position in old age to be minor compared to the damage he did when he had real power.

As always, the more we think about it the worse it seems that, compared to the present situation, we find ourselves nearly nostalgic for the merely despicable.

It isn't taking much arm-twisting to get people to **** on Bob Dole, or at least approve of it. And maybe walk back their comments. Classic, and expected. :D

Wouldn't want to avoid the groupthink, you know.

I know to some it's a sin to change one's mind, and especially to allow discussion on this forum to have any effect. Call it groupthink if it gives you pleasure.

I still believe that Dole had a measure of integrity, and that he supported some good causes, and even that he was not always 100 percent partisan. I thought little about him of late, and take no joy in his passing. But I continue to assert that his partisan role as Senate majority leader was unbecoming, to put it kindly, and I continue to think that as a whole, his legacy does not balance out on the plus side. I never did. The issue on which I'm changing my mind visibly is the "pass" on Trumpism. I think pretending that doesn't matter was probably better than he deserved.

You are right. I assumed you purchased food or supplies to produce your own food. Lot of Trumpers in that chain. But you probably don't eat.
I'm a cartoon character, so of course I don't eat. ;)

But seriously, since Covid happened I buy all my food from one place, and the owners are not Trumpers (there might be Trumpers in their supply chain, but that is irrelevant). I also produce some of my own food using plants supplied by my brother, who is not a Trumper. If I find out anyone I am doing business with is a Trumper, they lose my business immediately.

I think you dismissed a highly relevant group (the supply chain).

Say you give out a ton of passes to Trumpers without actually saying it

Nope. The supply chain is not relevant to the people I am doing business with. If they are giving Trumpers a pass that's their business, not mine. I do boycott products made or distributed by known Trumpers, but most of the supply chain is not real people, it's corporations who are focused on profit not politics.

Trumpers may be getting goods and services or income through the same supply chains as me, but even deplorables have a right to live a normal life. It's only their Trumpist behavior that I don't give a pass to.

I am not giving out passes to anyone. Some may think they are getting a pass from me, but that's just because I have limited resources to deal to them. I can assure you that come the revolution they will be first against the wall alongside you.

I think it's Bob the Coward's position that, if anybody anywhere in the food supply chain is a Trumper, you are a hypocrite if you do not starve to death.
