BLM Protesters shut down major freeway, national media ignores story.

This is currently happening but I have not seen a mention of it on any national news. And I'm OK with that.

Yes, there should be an investigation into the incident, but I think we will be seeing this kind of thing more often if broadcast more widely. But the cable stations are still repeating the "Breaking News" from France.

That area is a major entrance to one of the big hospitals in the area. One of the reasons I don't like it is the thought of someone (anyone!) being delayed proper care because of it.
 
Well at least if an ambulance needs to run them over to get to the hospital, the injured person is close to an emergency room.

Witnesses to the shooting just after midnight Sunday said the man was handcuffed when he was shot, sparking protests and an overnight encampment outside a police precinct on the city's north side.

Clark has had contact with police in the past.


Earlier this year, he was convicted of a felony count of terroristic threats and sentenced to 15 months in prison, but his sentence was stayed for five years and he was out on probation. In exchange for that guilty plea, a misdemeanor domestic assault charge and charges of damage to property were dismissed.


He was also convicted of aggravated robbery, a felony, in 2010 and convicted of a petty misdemeanor count of possessing a small amount of marijuana in 2009

We'll see whether or not the witnesses stories or his prior convictions are being exaggerated. To be fair, "Terroristic threats" can be as minor as an idle threat to someone in the heat of the moment. Aggravated robbery, not so much.
2015 Minnesota Statutes

609.245 AGGRAVATED ROBBERY.

Subdivision 1.First degree.

Whoever, while committing a robbery, is armed with a dangerous weapon or any article used or fashioned in a manner to lead the victim to reasonably believe it to be a dangerous weapon, or inflicts bodily harm upon another, is guilty of aggravated robbery in the first degree and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 20 years or to payment of a fine of not more than $35,000, or both.

§ Subd. 2.Second degree.

Whoever, while committing a robbery, implies, by word or act, possession of a dangerous weapon, is guilty of aggravated robbery in the second degree and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 15 years or to payment of a fine of not more than $30,000, or both.

For now, I'm putting my money on cops not executing a handcuffed man in front of EMTs and a crowd of people.
 
I'm so behind in the news. I thought this was going to be about Cliven Bundy, his ranch, and the Bureau of Land Management.

Well I thought it was about similar things though I would have been surprised if it was specifically about Bundy.
 
I'm sure that eventually this will make the national news' radar. The perp just died from the gunshot by the police. BTW, he had just beaten up his girlfriend, so much so that the paramedics had to be called, and he was preventing them from getting to her care. This is when the police restrained him. I've heard of several "eyewitness" accounts that don't seem to match the real story.

Oh, this story will have legs. We still have to get through the memorial demonstration, the investigation, and the riots/protests that will inevitably follow.
 
Another pillar of the community it seems. How is it these kill-crazy racist cops never shoot someone who's coming home from working at a soup kitchen?
 
I have to admit. I opened this hoping for more entertainment from Cliven Bundy. (He was a BLM protester before it was cool)
 
I miss Cliven. He had a more appealing kind of crazy. I think I'll send him a Christmas card.

Agreed. Protestors almost always work to let emergency vehicles through when they can, but this sort of protest can cause sudden traffic jams that they can still get caught in the middle of.
 
I do wish Black Lives Matter would take charge of their brand. Again, we have a "BLM" press conference at 9 in the morning and then a bunch of demonstrators/millers-around protesting ten hours later. And the headline is "Black LIves Matter Protesters...."

It seems that any black person is now "black lives matter". A new way to say "the ******* are acting up, again"? Black Lives Matter is the new "ACORN!!".

But they need to get some control of their image and their message. Shutting down traffic and storming libraries and belittling people is not going to help. I'm glad to see the cops busted a bunch of them. That's part of what civil disobedience is all about. They'll wind up with a slap on the wrist, but a few hours in a group holding cell is about what is merited.

Is there tape? Why doesn't the mayor answer that. I find her wanting to fob it off on the DoJ a tad suspicious.

Folks from the area.... isn't there a really bad history between this mayor and the cops? Or am I confusing it with some other city?

It's not so much the mayor vs. the cops, it's the area vs. the cops. The neighborhood is notorious -- hardly a week goes by where we don't hear of one neighbor shooting another. I am curious as to why the local media has hardly mentioned the original victim in all this, the guy's girl that he beat up so badly it required paramedics.

But after all, it is sweeps month and the local and national media are milking all stories for what ratings they can. I can imagine some producer in the office somewhere saying "Hey, this stuff is great! Our ratings will go through the roof!" Yes, I'm cynical about the media in general. And I'm not even talking about FOX.

I disagree. Thirty days in jail is what's merited, at least for the leaders. It's a very serious disruption to many thousands of people's lives. I don't see how blocking traffic on a central artery during rush hour could be considered less serious than shoplifting or even breaking and entering. Probation might be appropriate for the more junior people in the bunch.
