unless your name is Guy Montag. Then you can burn whatever books you like whenever you like, unless you don't want to.

I think he has special Government Dispensation, so it's OK.

Holocaust denial wouldn't get you far in Europe. AFAIK only Germany has laws against that.
I'll see if I can dig up a bible a Quaran and some other religious books and burn them, to see if I'll get charged when I post it on FB.
Go do it in Saudi!
Ok. Here, hold my beer.
France too, AFAIK. ETA: as mentionend before me : loi Gayssot
Depends if you also make reparations to the man who had to suffer the inappropriate impositions of state in the course of bringing about the result. We're sorry!Do we get our points back if this case causes the blasphemy law to be removed?
Someone compared burning a Quaran and a Bible. As I understand it, in Islam, the Quaran is holy, not only as scripture, but the individual book. Thus, in principle, burning it is blasphemy.
In Christianity, the Bible scripture is holy, but not the individual book. So while burning it might be offensive, it is not blasphemy.

That is very, very naughty of Denmark. They lose points for that one!!!!!
Careful with that free expression, Europe.
Consider me unsympathetic.
"Sure you can offend those guys. But not us, because we are extra sensitive" - not how i'd like to see the limits of free expression set.
Cos there are no blasphemy laws in the US...

The only time burning a book should be illegal is if it is someone else's property.
It probably was a "sleeping" law. It seems that what tends to happen with such laws is that there are no prosecutions for a long time, then something like this pops up and folk go "We still have that?" And then it is removed.
It's really much the same for many old laws etc., its easier to ignore them then go through the legislative palaver to remove them. Only when they cause a problem is the effort worth it.
