Blasphemy in Denmark

Someone compared burning a Quaran and a Bible. As I understand it, in Islam, the Quaran is holy, not only as scripture, but the individual book. Thus, in principle, burning it is blasphemy.

In Christianity, the Bible scripture is holy, but not the individual book. So while burning it might be offensive, it is not blasphemy.

Consider me unsympathetic.
"Sure you can offend those guys. But not us, because we are extra sensitive" - not how i'd like to see the limits of free expression set.

Oh, I wasn't expressing any opinion as such, just technicalities.

In my opinion, the blasphemy law should be removed, and it cannot be too soon.

It's really much the same for many old laws etc., its easier to ignore them then go through the legislative palaver to remove them. Only when they cause a problem is the effort worth it.

In the US, the term "Dead Letter Law" is used for an obsolete law that slipped through the cracks of being rescinded.

Suppose I create a religion that explicitly states Mohamed was't a prophet and that it is blasohemus to say he was. This would mean the Islamic call to prayer would fall under this law, and anyone broadcasting it would be liable for up to four months in jail. You can do the same for any other religion, i.e. ringing of bells is a way to insult my God or what have you.

Blashpemy laws only work if you have a preffered religion (or religions) that aren't allowed to be insulted, but others are fair game. In other words, laws like this have no place in the civilized world.

I think that had I been the prosecution, I'd have had him charged with trying to incite a riot.
