Blame Canada!!! Napolitano & 9/11 highjackers.

In an interview broadcast Monday on the CBC, Ms. Napolitano attempted to justify her call for stricter border security on the premise that "suspected or known terrorists" have entered the U. S. across the Canadian border, including the perpetrators of the 9/11 attack.
All the 9/11 terrorists, of course, entered the United States directly from overseas. The notion that some arrived via Canada is a myth that briefly popped up in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, and was then quickly debunked.
Informed of her error, Ms. Napolitano blustered: "I can't talk to that. I can talk about the future. And here's the future. The future is we have borders.




I never even heard this as a myth? Which one of you debunked that?
 
Now I'm supposed to worry about terrorists coming through Canada?!?!? That's gunna be an adjustment. I have all of my bunkers and trenches on the south side of my house because Reagan taught me in High school the the commies are coming up through Mexico. Now I gotta move all of that dirt.

Sadly, it reappears from time to time with various Senators and Representatives as well. It's quite aggravating to see this nonsense still be spoken some eight years later by folks who ought to know better.
 
Congressmen and Senators know the least. They don't even read the bills they vote on. Of course they all get the memo to blame Canada a staffer gave them a summary or something.
 
Well, it's a good thing that the Director of Homeland Security knows how the 9-11 terrorists made it into the country.

The kerfuffle prompted Napolitano to release a statement later Tuesday, reassuring Canadians that she knows full well that no 9-11 terrorists entered the U.S. through Canada. But there was a caveat.

"There are other instances, however, when suspected terrorists have attempted to enter our country from Canada to the United States," she said.

"Some of these are well-known to the public such as the Millennium Bomber while others are not due to security reasons."

Peter Van Loan, Canada's public safety minister, backed up Napolitano, saying they'd even "shared a chuckle" about the 9-11 myth last month when he visited Washington.

In the days following the events of 9/11 there were rumors and (I believe) selected media reports stating to the effect that one possibly two of the suspects had stayed at the Grand Hotel in Yarmouth and borded the ferry from Yarmouth Nova Scotia to Portland Maine. There was never any record or eye witness proof, so it faded as bull.
 
Napolitano was talking about how border laws are the same for the north and the south - they have to implement their laws equally on both borders.

So when is the fence going up??

(someone with knowledge of the Mexican border fence can maybe tell me if the legislation for that wall is specifically tailored for the south or not)

I think it's specifically tailored for the situation along that specific border. Equality of results, not equality of methods, and all that.
 
We were very fortunate to have a border portrol agent with a good eye prevent the 2000 Millennium plot, of which the would be bomber took a ferry from Victoria Port Angeles. This had more to do with having a good agent with good instinct than various protocols and physical security.
 
As usual, CBC commentator Rex Murphy pretty much nails it. Some snippets:

It’s nearly 9 years since the crash of the twin towers, and Janet Napolitano still doesn’t know – still – that all of the hijackers that brought tragedy that day came into the U.S.A. through their own Customs and Immigration. Not one came down through the great forests of Toronto or over the tundra of Montreal, not one of them got access to the U.S. via what Ms Napolitano thinks of as “borderless” Canada.

Must it be said to Ms Napolitano yet again? The September 11 hijackers did not enter via Canada. Sauda Arabia is not the 11th province. Mohammed Atta did not fly into New York that terrible day from Prince Edward Island. The 9-11 hijackers did not go to “flight school” in Buttonville. Canada was not, in whole or in part, the “holding room” of the 9-11 terrorists.

What is Barack Obama doing appointing someone to head Homeland Security, who, eight years after the attacks, does not even now know where the hijackers came from and how they got into their country? Here, it’s not her ignorance about Canada which should be troubling. It’s her ignorance of the most publicized event in modern American history. How can anyone be head of Homeland Security and not know the history of the 19 men who killed nearly 3,000 Americans?

Ms Napolitano acknowledges there are some “slight” differences between the U.S.-Canada border, and the U.S.-Mexico border. To wit: "Yes, Canada is not Mexico, it doesn't have a drug war going on, it didn't have 6,000 homicides that were drug-related last year." To which she might have added, neither have 11 million or so “undocumented immigrants” flowed from Canada to the U.S..

Nonetheless, with this trivial differences in mind, she argues, if they're going to tighten the Mexican border, they must "fix" the Canadian one, too. Ah yes, if the bulb goes out in the kitchen, change the one in the garage.

I think everyone is forgetting that Cabinet appoointments are political jobs. Does anyone really think that Hillary was the most qualified person for SoS, or was it a reward for playing nice after losing the primary elections?

In an ideal world these would all be merit-based, but the reality is these positions are pollitical. Let's just hope the people further down the ladder do have their jobs based on merit.
 
Has Napolitano been watching "South Park" ?

She must be getting intelligence reports from Kyle, Cartman and Kenny.

Just a nit-pick, but it's barely been seven and a half years, let alone "nearly 9."
