As white person, it's pretty easy for me to say Jackson is being overly dramatic.

But then again, as a white person, I don't have to worry about being gunned down on my way home from the store because I look "suspicious".

I guess you can debate whether "attack" is hyperbolic, but all of his specific examples seem perfectly legitimate, with the possible exception that I'm not sure whether blacks are disproportionately burdened by student loan debt. Might well be the case, though.

No, he's right about black students having more debt. It actually makes sense, black families weren't allowed to build wealth during the way that white families were, so there's really no nest egg for them to fall on to pay for college for their kids.

Oh, they weren't allowed, okay. Not maybe made poor choices in their lives but instead are controlled by outside forces. Must be nice to never have anything be your fault.

Yes, the differences between blacks and whites is that they are inherently different. By your logic the differences couldn't be attributed to environmental factors.

  • Black people have historically made bad choices.
  • Environmental factors have no bearing.
  • Thus black people are inherently ___________(please to fill in the blanks).

You tell me. Why the economic disparity between blacks and whites?

Since all scientific evidence demonstrates that there are no inherent difference between blacks and whites, then I say that the differences are in some significant degree environmental. That's not dismiss personal responsibility. But it's profoundly ignorant, or malicious, or both, to dismiss historic environmental factors.
