Bizarre Randi discussion

One box with one object? Is that even a real test? The chance of getting the object right by guessing has got to be several orders of magnitude better than the chance of playing the lottery.

Just like every other magician, he wants to control the test. How ... usual.

This has been a wonderful post to follow. I grew up in SC and lived in Charleston for many years, and I hadn't even heard of Jim Callahan until reading this post. However, I knew of Criss Angel and was amazed to see that the credit for the Youtube video where he, Uri Geller and Jim Callahan have their heated moment, was actually posted there by jimclass(dot)com.

Still reading through the thread, there's alot of amazing conversational misdirection technique, back talk and ad hominem argumentation going on (not like that's not seen here, but unexpected and bizzare just like the OP said - especially in reference to that forum)

On a side note, what Jim does is something alot of SC kids learned to do growing up - myself included, and that is faking possession. When we got bored with church, revivals and especially if we didn't like the preacher, it was a fun thing to do.

This bit made me grin....

You will notice that I appear to be exerting great strain to make the spike bend. This is a type of psychological validation necessary for the audience member. It is necessary to enable her to allow the phenomena occur.
from here... http://www.jimclass.com/guarantee.htm
so it looks like he is putting some effort as if bending it, but isn't.....eh? yeah right........

The guy looks fairly fit in the piccy on the front page, I'd guess nail bending wouldn't be that hard to do (if the illustration is somewhere near to life in proportion) if you were a guy built like that.......I expect there's some method even the less able could use to bend them, maybe.....

I'm curious. What would the trick be?

Good luck with getting an answer to that Devil.
I have been asking the same thing since the start and no one has been able to offer an explanation.

They do keep going on about it but not one of them has any idea of how it could be tricked.
I think it is something they talked themselves into believing.
(One person said it and the rest of them all picked up on the idea without any proof).

But after all this time not one answer as to how.

Possibly one of those who insists that it can be tricked will step up since no one on any magician or mentalist forum has been able to offer a possible how.

Best Wishes,

Jim

Mongrel the target is controlled by Randi at the location of his choice.

That was intentional to rule out any gaff.

I am curious too. Since the million dollar challenge predates your own, why not apply with the claim that you can divine the contents of a sealed box?

I have several reasons for that.
However I would prefer to stay on topic.
(Or at least keep with the subject I responded to)

My challenge is based upon Randi's own protocols for an remote viewing test.
So it is not as if I am just playing about.

My personal opinion is that since no one can figure a way to gaff the thing they don't want to do it.

In fact I have already done it once on national TV.
(No one figured that out either.)
That is why that presentation was chosen.

Would really like to hear about how one would cheat the test I have offered.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, you can only use psychic powers if the test is set up exactly how you specify?

Obviously even a successful demonstration under those conditions could not be conclusively taken as evidence for psychic ability, as it could easily be reasoned that your are privy to information about the setup that others were not.

I.e. you require it to be set up a certain way so you can use a certain trick.

The fact that others may or may not be able to figure out the trick is irrelevant.

I have no doubt you are a great mentalist and can do many things that would fool many people. Perhaps even fool most or all magicians.
However that is not what is relevant here.
What is relevant is; if you use psychic powers to achieve your effects, or whether you are simply a brilliant magician with non-psychic tricks others cannot figure out.

Jim,

Having read your test protocol I have a few questions that I would like to clear up.

1. Could a JREF representative place an item in an airport locker anywhere in the world at anytime and then accept your challenge? (provided, of course, they provide a web cam for the reveal.) No one else knowing when, where, or what?

2. What does salt and copper have to do with it?

3. The representative who has at the very least touched Mr. Randi at some point will have no idea what the object is?

4. Lets say the object is a top hat and you guess "Hat" would that be a hit to you? What if you say "frisbee" and the object is an aerobie? If you say, 'yes those would count' I would beg to differ as this is no longer an objective test.

Regardless of all of my questions, why do you not apply for the challenge and work with the JREF?

You state the following in your protocol
have noted that an adversarial or antagonistic procedural system appears to be the biggest complaint heard among challengers for the JREF prize and from those viewing the proceedings. I believe this is nonproductive for both parties involved and I will do what I can to alleviate the problem

It would seem that inventing your own counter challenge would be in its very nature antagonistic.

One thing jumps right out
It doesn't jump out to me. It seems exposing the trick would end this ordeal quickly. What is the trick? Or should we continue the charade of promising mystical powers none but silent few ever expose?
