Well, you see, the Esquire parody portrayed him as being reasonable and acknowledging when he was mistaken. Unfornately, for him, the crowd that he panders too considers such attributes to indicate weakness and may portray him as 'wishy-washy' if such were true.

Seeing as reasonable people don't buy his books, portraying him as reasonable hurts his income.
