Bill O'Reilly talking about "The Muslim Problem" again... thoughts on this?

The most common lie from Bill O'Reilly -- "I'll give you the last word."

Almost every interview where he disagrees he says this and then doesn't do it. I always think of this when Bill-O challenges someone to, "tell me one instance where I've lied."

When I hear him say it I don't remember him not giving them the last word.
He maybe makes it known he is right before he gives it to them.

This is what I usually see too although I have seen him reply to "the last word" at times.

His reply is usually a brief repeat of what his major point is -- seldom does he give someone the last word and then give a counter argument.

Hmmm out of curiosity: A small minority of Americans engage in homophobic motivated violence, while some others speak out against it.
a) Does this indicate Americans are a problem?
b) Does this indicate there is no problem because it’s only a small?
c) None of the above?

(c)

Unless a large majority of Americans were going ass up 5 times a day to worship a creed which advocates the worldwide hunting and slaughter of all homosexuals. In which case, I think it would not be a cause for a screech-out-walk-out to say "(fill in name of homosexual-slaughtering religion here)'s are slaughtering homosexuals all over the world." And I think it would be roughly correct to say "There is a (fill in name of homosexual-slaughtering religion here) problem in the world."

Or if, for example, entire nations were engaged in the systematic hunting down and hanging of homosexuals on a religious pretext, or if people were being systematically abused, beaten, maimed, stoned, and slaughtered all over the world on similar religious pretexts - then I would say the offending religion has a problem. And I would be correct to say so. Because that religion does have a problem.

in which case, I would say (a) - yes, (fill in the name of offending creed here) is a problem.

But I wouldn't say "Iranians are the problem." or "Saudis are the problem.", which is the false comparison you are trying to sell.

People, and the various loony ideologies which give them their excuses to commit hideous atrocities and lunacies, are the problem. Always have been. And there is nothing wrong with naming and indicting the various ignorant, loony ideologies which drive them.

Did you stand up and walk out on O'Reilly when he continued to hammer on the "Muslim problem"?

There is a Muslim problem. There is a Christian problem. There is a radical left problem. There is a radical right problem. And a host of other problems too numerous to mention in a quick reply.

Ball of confusion. That's what the world is today. Ball of buttheaded political bitch-ass confusion.

So why get all tore up about O'Reilly hammering on the Muslim problem? Me? I'd be hammering on all of you. You all look alike to me. And if those ignorant sluts hadn't stood up on O'Reilly when he (soon-to-be-illegally) omitted the "radical" qualifier, the whole ridiculous queersome bruhaha never would have happened. There would simply have been a passing reference to "Muslims" attacking us on 9/11, and that would have been the end of it.

But now look what the ignorant sluts have done. Now there is no end to it. On and on and on the silly bruhaha goes.

Look. The ignorant sluts asked O'Reilly why 70% of Americans don't want the mosque near GZ. He adequately answered their question. Oh, but he forgot to say "radical".

Get over it, learn to live with it, get a life, move on.

Neat. No, really... quite the preachy rant. I agree with your statement that we have problems in this world, but I was bringing up O'Reilly because of the way he's talking about the problem. The fact that he does have the number one nightly cable "news / political commentary" show on cable TV means that he's reaching a lot of people. More than his competition.

HOWEVER... How about you go back and read through my first post again and maybe watch the clips I posted from his show.

You see... you are going on & on about "sluts" and "sluts walking out on O'Reilly" and all that. I can only assume that you are talking about his appearance on 'The View' a couple weeks ago. Great for you.

Well... I posted about the crap he spewed on his show this past Monday night & the conversation he had with a guest on his show. There were no "sluts" in the clips I posted in this thread. This is not about his appearance on 'The View'

So, can you actually watch what I posted, then maybe comment on it?

I mean, if you think you have psychic powers and just know what a thread is about without taking the time to read, then there's a contest you can enter to win $1,000,000 if you can indeed prove this psychic ability. I'll send you the link if you need/want it.

So, try again?

... Did you even read the first post in this thread? :boggled:

Fear sells, and O'Reilly is in the market of fear. It simply sells more when O'Reilly markets Islamic terrorism as more prevalent and more dangerous than it is. I know plenty of conservatives who think that all Muslims are bad people trying to take over the US. Seriously, they are not being hyperbolic. They truly believe that the kindly Muslim living amongst us is secretely rooting for the downfall of the US and the Koran directs their followers to lie to us westerners to advance their faith. There are plenty of conservatives who believe this.

O'Reilly understands his core audience are Christian conservatives who *want*, even *need* to believe in the facile black/white explanation for Islamic extremism. Far easier to see this as a *us* versus *them* where it is Christians and western world versus Muslims and nefarious middle east.

There is no way O'Reilly will change. Far more pernicious is Beck, IMO. I think Beck effects his audience more and his demagoguery against Muslims is even worse.

That's a spot on post, Lurker. The thing I wonder is... are there people sitting at home, hanging onto what he and his colleagues say about "The Muslim Problem" and then think it's up to them to help 'solve the problem'? As mentioned above, I was born to Jewish family and have heard what it was like in 1930's Germany. I'm not saying that America is gonna build camps, but when people who have shows that are watched by millions nightly and use generalized terms like "The world has a Muslim Problem", it can have consequences.

By the way... Is that Andrew Eldritch in your avatar? I'm positive it is. Big S.O.M. fan here... :)

I fear the extremism of the American Christian Right these days a damn sight more than the extremism of Islam.
I hear ya, Johnny. Agreed.

Paranoia?
I would say that Bill O'Reilly is parinoid about Muslims. Yes, Al. ;)

Jewish Question
German Problem
Palestinian Problem
Muslim Problem

all of these ethnic "problems"...usually lead to bad news.

Yup... That's what I want to know. What does 'Mr. & Mrs. average American who watches Fox News at 8pm est.' think when they see O'Reilly constantly talk about "The Muslim Problem".
And as Lurker said, it's not only Bill O. You have Beck, Hannity, Coulter, Malkin, Limbaugh, Savage, etc...

Nice out-of-context work.

Perhaps both of you can explain what harm you foresee effecting you from the extremism of the American Christian Right.

But likely not. As I said, paranoia.

Just on a personal note, O'Reilly always cuts people off and it makes me want to bitch slap the bitch. His show has become not the No Spin Zone, it is the Bill O'Reily Show. It's all about him. News is just the vehicle the uses.
