Merged Bigfoot follies

Hey MikeG...
How about Meldrum apologizing to the world for incredibly bad science, intellectual dishonesty and outright fraud?......

Time to catch up to the reality that has been discussed for years here MikeG.

No. Get some perspective.

For a start, Meldrum isn't a member here, and hasn't posted on this thread. I am reacting to a guy who has made a wholly inaccurate accusation of theft or fraud. He said that Meldrum pocketed some money he wasn't entitled to. Honestly, that is court-case territory. You can be sued for libel for posting unsupported, and as it turns out, erroneous crap like that.

Just because you don't like Meldrum, don't try and turn this around. This isn't about Meldrum at all. A member of this forum has written something he shouldn't have, and he should apologise for it, no matter how much the bloke he libelled is disliked by you.

I can't believe how warped your comment really is.

Mike

If someone promised me a service in exchange for monitary support, and he knew it was impossible to provide that service, would that not be fraud?

Then you can also call me warped, because I endorse Rock's post 100%.

"I stand corrected" was an appropriate response to the situation.

Tone down on the faux indignation please.

Threatening legal action is frowned on in this establishment.

All that just to point out to the rest of the natives here that no matter their sincerity, they really have a zero chance of ever 'converting' you into seeing Bigfoot's reality. With your minor miscue above only confirming it, I do not and have not ever believed your participation here was as a humble Bigfoot fan and fact-finder 'just trying to figure it all out'. I'm not calling you names, just saying you're pretending. That is, you're a dedicated Bigfoot bleever/seeker/apologist who exists in the vacuum that is you seeing only what you wanna see and hearing only what you wanna hear. Even your response above was pro Bigfoot given the BFF reference. I mean, over there the Bigfoot fantasy isn't just a discussion, it's a way of life.

Seriously, I'll bet real money there's nothing any of your forum peers here could say or do, and maybe only a teensy tiny bit more 'modern science' could say or do that would ever convince you there is no Bigfoot.

I don't consider my participation in these threads as including some kind of obligation or duty to convert someone else's viewpoint to my way of thinking, the only point of view I care about is mine, live and let live. Education is a slow process not a brow beating.

I love how closet bleevers try to get in their shots. :D

I question the degree to which Meldrum has been defamed and the amount of income lost as a result of a statement on an internet forum which was subsequently acknowledged as being erroneous within 24 hours.

I also question the degree to which Meldrum has been enfamed and the subsequent and ongoing boost to his income for failing to acknowledge his own error with regards to the misidentification of the Skookum elk-lay – a key piece of evidence in his still popular book of 2006 “Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science” . . .

And that is my issue with Dr. Meldrum, until you have an actual foot to match up with a foot print or cast, you can't make a case for bigfoot, it's all supposition. Even he has made mistakes with casts that were thought to belong to a sasquatch but were definitively proven to be a hoax after the fact. No one's an expert.

That's what I don't understand about these footers that are after Tontar for supposedly faking the Elbe tracks. If Dr. Meldrum can't tell what is hoaxed how do you expect Joe Blow to figure it out?

As a believer, It seems to be an unreasonable expectation to think you would never be fooled considering the history of the culture. Whether you believe or not, prints ought to be tossed out as piss poor evidence for that reason alone IMO.

1) Mike's perspective might stem from the lower legal standard for libel in the UK than in the US.

2) To my knowledge, Jeff Meldrum has never issued any kind of retraction regarding his perceived-to-be expert opinion on a given piece of so-called Bigfoot evidence. Given what we know about some of those items, Meldrum is forfeiting his academic integrity by not doing so. The fact that he derives direct monetary benefit from those items sure looks like fraud to me.

Shrike nailed it. If you watch the performance by Meldrum in the Snelgrove Lake MQ he is such a pee poor actor that it's obvious the whole set up is a fraud. Plus the elk arse cast he endorses, and the fake tracks he endorses. And of course, the PGF he endorses.

Question, how well regarded in his field is D. Jeffy Meldrum? If he is an academic nobody then perhaps the TV appearances and conference appearance not only provide $ but feed the ego of the guy who saw his career stagnate? Just a thought.

It does not matter one whit about Meldrum's academic standing amongst his peers. He is bullet proof.
Why? Because he can just deflect any criticisms about his work (which has nothing to do with squatches) as prejudicial due to his involvement with squatches.
This man is "As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University." (apologies to Black Adder fans)

Meldrum does misrepresent his casts at conferences. I bought one of them and it had been definitively proven to be hoaxed, in that the person confessed who made it, but he continues to sell that version at the conferences he frequents. I had no clue on the back story of anything so I bought the prettiest one being new to bigfootery at the time. Anyway, it was the one I broke making prints for Shrike on the beach.

Wow, you're in a bad mood today!

I understand his point, though. Meldrum is an idiot, but one shouldn't say he's a crook based on shoddy evidence. Isn't shoddy evidence our basis for dismissing bigfoot belief? Then we shouldn't tolerate it here. Seems fair.

How was the athenticity of that cast represented at the conference?

I believe in accountability. meldrum needs to be held accountable, and not by projecting his faults and issues onto someone else. You have a problem with Meldrum, have at it, engage him man to man,

I have no idea how or why Mike is supposed to defend Meldrum!

He's selling known hoaxed casts as legitimate bigfoot tracks at conferences. It needs repeating for those skipping over my posts. I can't speak for anything else he does.

They were sitting in front of him with no name or attached incident assigned to them. He had several of each type, I remember cripple foot and a baby bigfoot print cast. When I first came here, Shrike said something about the prints being faked by a known hoaxer. I looked mine up, found the match, and it was indeed a Wallace print.
