Moderated Bigfoot- Anybody Seen one?

While I'm fully on board with your thoughts, there's a subtle clause attached to that poll on the BFF: it's for "proponents" only. In other words, if you believe in bigfoot, how many of them do you think there are? Viewed in this light, it's actually pretty interesting to have a few believers respond that there are none. It's no more logically supported than belief that there are 50,000, but it does illustrate that some people who believe in bigfoot do recognize the ridiculousness of not being able to find evidence of one given modern technologies.
:)
I'm glad I didn't notice that. I laughed a bit when I saw the poll and I probably wouldn't have otherwise and I probably wouldn't have made my somewhat unfair post if I had seen it either. And that makes me smile a bit also.

As an aside, I've been reading through a bit of the 9-11 conspiracy posts lately and bigfoot seems down right plausible if you stack it up against some of the amazing nut jobbery involved in that nonsense. Of course, comparing one wildly unlikely to be true theory with a bat **** crazy provably impossible theory may not be all that productive. But maybe it does make sense: the charges/thermite/thermate in the WTC were planted by a bigfoot.

If anyone is interested, skeptic Ben Radford will be on Steve Kull's Blog talk radio program on Sunday at 8pm EST.

I listened to the archived show. As I predicted, and nothing was said that we haven't heard before. Radford didn't threaten the hosts' belief at all.

Kulls is all hung up on the "New York Baby Video" and went on and on about it. Radford had never heard of it before. Kulls is dead serious and it sounds like he puts this video up with the PGF. Not only is the "baby video" not a hoax - it isn't even a living creature.

What is it? It looked like a pet monkey to me.

It appears to be some object suspended on string or rope that is swinging and/or being hoisted. It may be well forward of the tree that they say it is climbing around. But if you look closely it isn't climbing and there may not even be branches in the area it appears to be in. It moves far too rapidly and fluidly to be any climbing animal. I do not think this is a hoax.

This is a decent version. Are there any with better resolution than this?

I can't see how this could be a monkey let alone a baby Bigfoot.

The scale of the critter is strange.
One theory is that it's much closer to the camera than it seems and it's a spider catching a moth that is seen moving in the first 3 seconds of the video.

Sorry I don't see how you can gather that it is artificial like you claim. It isn't a bigfoot but to state that it couldn't be something natural is only speculation, not fact.

That's not a bad idea. I was also thinking of a deflated balloon hanging by its string and being blown around. The campfire may be creating upward winds and causing things to move around.

Your pet monkey theory is speculation too. So what? What makes it seem non-living to me is that it moves upwards very rapidly and without any visible climbing movements - not even jumping. It looks like it is being pulled up. I think I even see the figure split into two different things. (That might be the spider moving away from the trapped moth.)

The framing of the shot is the giveaway that the video is a hoax, imo. No need to look any further.

I disagree. What were they trying to hoax? The story is that they found this thing a few years after it was created. Some have said you can see a dome tent way back there with people walking around it.

Kulls and others say it is an adult Bigfoot that walks to the tree and then a baby jumps off its back and starts playing in the tree. Then the adult comes back and gathers the baby. Even though Radford was unfamiliar with the video he still asked good questions. How does a baby Bigfoot jump around in a tree like a monkey when Bigfoots are essentially built like humans? Kulls says well you know how we are nimble and acrobatic when we are kids then lose that as we grow older.

Your pet monkey theory is speculation too. So what?
Nice...
Your original statement sure makes it sounds like you have the whole thing figured out as a fact.
Not only is the "baby video" not a hoax - it isn't even a living creature.

Mine was obviously speculation.
What is it? It looked like a pet monkey to me.

That's what. :catfight:
I was just wondering if you knew something I didn't. Your follow up states more clearly that you were speculating but your original certainly did not.

Well, this was a chunk of my life spent in a questionable way. I spent quite a bit of time playing and replaying the thing (the video linked to by Drewbot above) before I figured out what people were talking about. Unfortunately, my computer also went into a temporary lockup mode, something about the Divx add on that I installed last night is making it a bit unstable. Apparently seeing bigfeet in mundane boring videos is not a skill easily acquired.

Probably, most of the people that are participating in this thread already have this skill and know what to expect, but if you happen to be a casual bigfootee and just happen by, be warned, your life might be happier if you skip this video.

Thankfully, for the non-bigfootee viewers the section of the video is repeated with a big red circle around the area of interest about 3/4 away through the video. You very well may not see anything there either, but if you've invested enough time to get this far you might keep trying. There is a dark area near the trunk of a tree that drops from the tree a bit and then rises back into the tree. The spot is obscured by the head of the guy with the microphone part of the time.

Why exactly this video is related to bigfoot is not exactly clear, it could be used in just about any CT. Is it the man behind the grassy knoll? Is it one of the stealthy super ninjas that planted the thermite in the World Trade Center? Is it an extraterrestrial visitor? Maybe it's a phantasm from the great beyond. Or it could be something caught in the tree that the wind is whipping around. Pick your theory and apply the appropriate confirmation bias and see what you will.

First impressions only... I really haven't given it that much thought, nor do I think it warrants much more than I have.

I've attached a Google Maps image of Lembo Lake, near Modena, NY. I did some field work in that area back in the '80s. It's pretty - lots of apple orchards - but not very "bigfooty" in my estimation.

Lembo Lake is laced with dirtbike and ATV trails. It's not a "nature" park by any stretch of the imagination. On the evening this was filmed, there was apparently a "rock concert" going on at the lake. At one point, the camera pans around the lake to show all the other campfires. This was a busy night of partying at a community recreation park, and it wasn't even night yet when this was filmed.

The lake has a narrow line of trees around it, but no woodlot per se. Beyond the dirt bike trails to the east there is about 400 m of forest extending to an Interstate highway. West of the lake is a lot of orchard.

It's tough to pin down where the bigfoot took its pet spider monkey for a little exercise, but it might very well be that single row of trees right next to the lake. They don't look to be all the way back into the woodlot to the east.

So believers in this footage are accepting the following:

A bigfoot and its baby (or pet spider monkey!) were hanging out at a crowded community park at dusk during a concert, and quite possibly in a single row of trees. Good thing nobody had a game camera there or we would've never obtained this stunning footage. . .

What was so amazing (spooky) about Kulls in that radio show was his aggressive confidence that this shows an adult Bigfoot and baby. He keeps pounding it on Radford as being great evidence.
