Big cat

they mean housecat right? Or is a big cat like a panther or something? I saw a pic of a cat as long as its owner from head to tip of hind paw. I wouldn't be surprised if that's a housecat type cat.

Okay, this is a cornish cat

Can I have some of what you're smokin'?

My uncle has a cat that if stood up is well over 4 feet long (not counting tail).

Housecats can get VERY long, and VERY big. 20-25 lbs cats are common, and my uncles cat is by no means an anomaly.

Yeah, mine's easily 3+ ft. He's a pretty big boy.

Doesn't adress my previous post though, does it?

Ok Eos, the kindest explination I can think of is you saw a pic of someone with an Ocelot.

NOT common.
NOT a "housecat".

Very cool though. ;)

Well, maybe the pic was doctored. It was a huge fat fat housecat. I swear IT was at least 4 ft. long. It was on the net, so you never know about authenticity.

So, you haven't quite cleared up my confusion yet.

Do I choose...

A. You engaged in hyperbole.

B. The "owner" was 4ft tall.

Either is fine.

Yeah, the owner was a woman, and she didn't look tall. Like I said, it was on the net. I'll try to find it. That cat was FAT.

Okay, I think I remembered it a little bigger, it's not 4 ft. You can now say I 'engage in hyperbole'.

The pic owner's site

Another big kitty from that site:

Cool stuff. ;)

That first is a seriously FAT cat. Not sure whether to laugh or be pissed at the owner. :(

Am I alone in seeing somethin wrong with the second pic?

PhotoShopped?

Well, it's from the same site. If anyone can see evidence of photo shop or whatever, there's usually something that can be detected. I wouldn't doubt it. You might be able to ask the site owner if she has an email link.

Eos, the site's owner is a young boy (was? I don't know how long the site has been up).

I'm not going to zoom in looking for pixel artifacts on that second pic. Too lazy today.

There are several anomolies in position that stand out.

Besides, the idea of a housecat breed feline that size is ludicrous. Now if I could aquire a 40 lb dwarf Bengal, I'd gladly deal with my allergy. :D

Cats are famously slumpy, the cat in the second pic is not slumping. He's quite stiff. The guy couldn't be holding a cat that large with his arms simply out in front, he'd be leaning back to balance the load.

The first cat may be really that fat, or it may have its size 'enhanced' for the picture. I've seen some hugely fat cats. My husband overfeeds our cats but they aren't that hefty.

Thanks, you got most of my objections, esp. the cat's posture. I really was too lazy to type what you did.

It looks like a pic of it standing.

I think the first is real though. Go to the linked site...many more.

Snopes.com always has all the answers.
Also says this:
Turning to our Guinness Book of World Records, we find that they list the world's largest domestic cat as a male Queensland, Australia, tabby named Himmy who tipped the scales at just under 47 lbs. and was 38 inches long. However, the on-line version of Guinness includes an article and a picture of a whopping big kitty, but it still measures only 41 inches from tip to tail, well short of the 69 inches claimed for the critter in the picture above.

Hmmm..

According to the Ottawa Citizen, the picture actually shows an Edmonds, Washington, man named Cordell Hauglie and his cat Jumper, and the photo was manipulated with PhotoShop to create the effect of a feline of much larger-than-ordinary size. According to Mr. Hauglie:

"My daughter wanted to send an electronic photo of her cat to her friend. I got a little carried away. When we sent it to her friend, we never dreamed anyone would believe the photo was real."

He's had many chuckles over the analysis of the photo. Some viewers assert the cat appears stuffed, while others say it's standing, not being held. Still others suggest the man in the photo doesn't look as though he's holding a 40-kilogram object.

Truth is, he isn't. His son held up the cat for one photo, proving you can suspend a cat in that fashion, and Mr. Hauglie stood in the same light for the next shot.

bolding mine. Ok, I'll go along, I think.

The pic in the BBC article is hardly convincing. Could be a white plastic trash bag!

And I've seen that guy with the big white cat months ago, was sure it was faked.

Here is some quick and not very good editing. I just wanted to get some idea of how the cat might look more in real life.:wink8:

Still a big cat.
