Biden for President?

It's been demonstrated numerous times on this forum that European countries are among the most homogeneous countries on the planet.
It is quite dumb statement.

There are european countries that are quite homogeneous, yes, but there are also countries with significantly higher count of racial minorities. You would see black man once in blue moon in Poland, but in Germany you would see them dozen per day.

By throwing all european countries in one bag, you are doing exactly what you accuse of others. Pretty hilarious.

One could at least properly observe a very loose correlation between a colonial-imperial past and increased presence of racial minorities. In fact quite a few have had flashes of violence (in many directions) and demagogue politicians harping on about "no-go zones(!)"

Another example is seasonal migratory flows for hospitality and agricultural work. Our American eyes might not immediately pick out eastern/southern European periphery characteristics at a glance, but they have enclaves in the more powerful states. Just as was true in our own history "white" is a fluid concept and skin color isn't the whole story.

And that ended catastrophically, actually setting back efforts to expand health coverage. That's not a bullet point on her resume.

It was unsuccessful because of huge opposition by Republicans and the powerful healthcare and pharmaceutical companies and the fact that competing plans were introduced by other Democrats which divided support.

The bill was co-sponsored by Democratic and Republican leaders. She has exaggerated her role.

Her claims were rated Mostly True by Politico:
A Clinton campaign ad says one of her accomplishments was "winning health care for 8 million children."

That statement is largely accurate. Clinton was key to creating the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which provides coverage for 8 million children. But the ad leaves out the contributions of others.

Because of that caveat, we rate her statement Mostly True.

Ya gotta love watching the very same people who once claimed Biden was the most electable now flounder around for somebody to blame for his shortage electability... it's just too bad they didn't have this epiphany soon enough for it to do the country some good.

As far as Biden's electability, it certainly doesn't help to have people claiming he's got dementia.

I think Biden plans to be "done" the day after winning the general election.
Whomever he picks for VP will, I suspect, for all intents and purposes be the President.

So...Dick Cheney for VP? Great idea, reach across the isles.

Actually I am unaware of any Biden supporters HERE who say they wouldn't vote for Sanders over Trump if it came to that choice.

But if there were, the reason why they wouldn't receive as much scorn is logic and the political spectrum.

Trump and the republicans are on the political right, Sanders is on the far left, Biden is center left. If a Biden supporter had to pick an alternative, there is no reason they would have to pick the Far-left candidate, since selecting either alternative involves choosing policies you might not like (especially if both alternatives are equidistant on the political spectrum.)

On the other hand, a Sanders supporter who is forced to chose between Biden and Trump has a choice... pick someone CLOSER to Sander's ideology (i.e. Biden) or further (Trump). One of them is clearly closer to Sanders in the ideological spectrum.

So any Sanders supporter who decides not to support Biden can only be doing so out of petty or dumb reasons (like a foolish notion that "Biden is "just like" a republican, or that we must burn everything to the ground because Sanders didn't win.

Alienation and indifference are both rational behaviors that are studied and featured in spacial voting and turnout models. Viewing either as "dumb" or "petty" is unhelpful.

Biden's not got dementia. He's just as sharp as any other 77 year old.

Some are sharper than others. People might say Bernie Sanders is misguided, but nobody's claiming he's senile. Doc Fauci might be one of the smartest guys in the country -- and he's 79.

I don't think Biden's mentally declining, at least not visibly, at least not much more than the average person in their late 70s. As mentioned previously he's has lifelong speech problems.

And there's some old lady in her 90s who swam the English Channel. The problem with rare exceptions to the normal is that they're rare. Time is inexorable, and aging is harsh. If elected Biden will be 78 when he takes office. Do you know what the average life expectancy of an American man is?

It's 78.

I hope he picks someone good, and younger, for VP.

On the other hand his dad lived to be 87, and his mom to 92. "Life expectancy" is tricky, because the average is reduced by all deaths from all causes at all ages. But if you survive into your 60s, you're good to go for quite a bit longer.
A man turning age 65 on April 1, 2019 can expect to live, on average, until age 84.0.
A woman turning age 65 on April 1, 2019 can expect to live, on average, until age 86.5.

I come from a very long-lived family myself. Grandpa made it to 104. Unfortunately his mind didn't stay sharp for that whole time, he was distinctly loopy from 70 onward. Very few people, even the long-lived, are as mentally sharp in their 80s as they were in their 60s, or in their 60s as they were in their 40s!

Aw, come on TM. That's not up to your usual standards. You know damn well that's not true. RBG is ten years older than Biden and she's still making SC decisions.

Yeah, I'm not really sold on the notion of lifetime appointments so to me that's more of an argument against octogenarian SC justices rather than for an octogenarian president.

One of the strengths of the Court is the heavy use of clerks by the justices. Having a strong team of very smart younger lawyers under a single far more experienced lawyer is a pretty damn good model for quality work to be done. Especially if the older lawyer knows they can trust the younger ones because they are the best in the country.
