Biden Bilge: Double The Gaffes For Double The Pleasure

I appreciate your increasingly desperate attempts to cover for the Palin disaster, you're a good little soldier for your party and you should be proud.

But I fear this is a lost cause, because at the heart of the matter (is the VP qualified to be president) your side loses in a crushing, humiliating, monstrous defeat.

And you know it, thus your desperation.

But fight on, little Republican soldier. Copy and paste those talking points. Maybe you'll win a few votes for your man.

Biden is well known for his gaffes. There will be more. He generally gets away with it because he is so well respected otherwise. The gaffes don't negate his substance.

You're right. It was a terrible gaffe to say "TV" instead of "news reels" or "radio".

This is from 1933 when the banks started to fail. (Or did you imagine Biden said "the crash of '29"? He didn't.)

I agree with your assessment. Though, there is a good possibility that the VP debate will degenerate into the Great American Gaffe-off of 2008.

Well,

the gaffe that the link shows is pretty non-substantial. Don't most politicians do similar things?

C'mon, they are human.

The "gaffes" that are more pointed are the ones where the VP candidates demonstrate a lack of understanding of their running mates position. Or that paint the position in a poor light. Those "gaffes" are telling, and could be damaging.

Think of most of Palin's answers, or Biden's "be a Patriot, and pay up" statement or his flub about Obama's coal policy.

Those are more significant, IMHO.

I appreciate your lack of chiming in like this on any of a dozen ridiculous Palin-bashing threads.

Bias present, and noted.

I appreciate how you failed to address the rest of his post, and more precisely the sentence that followed:

Biden is a gaffer. Everybody knew that before he was even selected. And you can be sure he'll make a few more next Thursday.

Huh? Did you watch the video. No need for imagination, yours or mine. Ole Joe said "when the stock market crashed." That was October 1929. FDR was Governor of New York at that time.

The subject of Roosevelt’s fist radio fireside chat in March, 1933 was the reopening of the banks. What does this have to do with the 1929 crash that Biden refers to?

I appreciate how you failed to address the rest of his post..........

That's because the sentance you highlight was on topic, and didn't irk me as much as the first, or the last about "little Republican soldier".

There has been an endless stream of ridiculous threads about Palin which have as their subject various types of misrepresentations of her beliefs, actions, or cognitive ability.

What is amazing is that even with the Palin opposition's ample real issues to be had with Palin, they still feel it necessary to smear. Why? I'm not sure, but try to label them as "good little Democrat soldiers" is a good way to get a Rule 6 warning, to be sure.

When someone posts a Youtube link about a Biden gaffe (an inconsequential one), he immediately is hammered in a Rule 6 violation.

Something stinks here at JREF, and that stench is BIAS.

Says who? What is the instrument you are using that measures the toxic fallout of Biden's gaffes that tells you the levels pose no threat to the man's "substance?"

His polling numbers. While the gaffes don't help his cause any, they're generally expected of him. He remains respected among his peers and the electorate.

Well, I fail to see how goofing on the technological level of the 1930s would have a substantial impact on any real-world issue that Biden might have to face as VP.

OTOH, I am rather uncomfortable with a VP who feels that "foreign policy" consists of being close to a sparsely populated region of another country.

That part doesn't bother me.
However, for a politician to confuse who was president at the time of the crash does bother me. That's simply stupid and unacceptable. It's like an engineering confusing pressure and viscosity units.

That is very bad. But it doesn't excuse Biden's errors.

I do not like the fact we must play the, Which-VP-says-the-dumber-thing game and not the, Which-VP-could-be-president game.

Let's see. He got 63,157 votes during the Democratic primaries and caucuses this year. Palin got 99,610 votes in the Alaskan gubernatorial election.

This is how we gauge respect, yes?

It would bother me if the substance made no sense. It was dumb, but it's not necessarily a deal breaker for me. I'd give the same kind of passes to Palin.

Nope. Polling, and not those apples and oranges.

not a deal breaker, but definitely a dumb and not a small dumb thing.

I always (in my head) play the, "What if the other side said it game". And in this instance, I am fairly confident that Palin would be further derided for it.

Not a small dumb thing? Meh. Debatable. I think he was mostly referring to the Great Depression which didn't really begin to hit full stride until FDR was President. The stock market actually significantly went back up after the '29 crash. The credit/debt issues didn't come to a head until a few years later.

It was still a dumb thing to say.

Agreed, but Palin doesn't have anything of substance in her credentials to really fall back on.
