Not in a cross walk, just meandering about....then he tackles a dude on a bike?

The cop will charge the dude with all the charges he can imagine, the dude may plea, but I hope he doesn't........

Problem is with NYPD being Unionized.....(and I am a lefty democrat) they can do almost anything, and still retire in 25 years like this moron's dad did.

I once called the cops up to my appt on 36th and 1st ave....(17th floor).....for a break in. All they did was look out the window at a fellow cop directing traffic and laugh...they never even took a report? Protect? Serve? LMAO

The "cop" should lose his job yesterday.........

Almost but not quite serves them right for doing anything other than riding their bikes. I wouldn't wish injury on anyone, but for Satan's sake if you're on a bicycle in traffic you need to be paying attention to traffic instead of a phone. Of course, that goes for drivers too.

If this cop is back on the street the city of New York has a serious problem. A probable assault even mitigated possibly by exigent circumstances is a very serious situation. The completely false police report puts this over the top.

Assuming that the facts are roughly as they appear, this guy needs to not be a cop. If he stayed a cop and he pulled crap like this again New York would reasonably be subject to a massive law suit. If the need for the use of legitimate force occurs who would believe him given impeaching evidence like this? Either way, if this guy's career is not over New York is in trouble and if the union stands in the way of getting rid of somebody like this it's time for New York to get rid of the police union.

Personally, I'd put him in jail for a few years until he's had a chance to rethink his life. And for what it's worth I saw the cops side in the Rodney King beating and have a generally sympathetic view towards the police. So I'm not in the police are usually wrong wing of the JREF forum by quite a margin. I think making him personally liable for the man's injuries and any subsequent law suit would be a nice touch also.

If the officer ultimately doesn't have anything more than "resisting arrest" to charge him with, I suspect it's the officer who is in the wrong.

Still, as others have mentioned above, given it involved a "critical mass" asshat, I couldn't help but watch that video and laugh -- as it sounds like a couple of people watching the incident did as well.

The one thing which might have made that take down even better would have been watching the police officer stick his baton in the spokes of the cyclist's front tire as he tried to ride past.

These are bicyclists we are talking about. The vast majority of them I see break the law and put themselves and others at risk. And these aren't the ones that are protesting. If they are traffic then they can't disrupt the flow of traffic because guess what..... Guess what's against the law people? Come on it should be so blatantly obvious...... Obstructing the flow of traffic is against the law hence they have no argument.

I am no fan of these bicyclist people and they have no business disrupting traffic, but really has nothing whatsoever do with what went on in this video and the assaultive behavior of the police. Not to mention the apparent limitless willingness of the police to formally lie about their behavior in order to justify their lawless behavior.

I used to bike to the railroad station when I was taking the train to work.

There was no freakin' way I was going to ride my bike down Duke Street, even though I had just as much right to the road as the motor vehicles. Not even wearing a helmet and a flashing red light on my back pack. Too many morons who can't drive even when they're not distracted, let alone when they're talking on the cell phone or listening to Guns 'n' Roses on their earbuds or putting on makeup or shaving or reading the newspaper.

I stayed on the sidewalk and made liberal use of the bell on my handlebar. Never had a single collision in six years.

In the UK that is actually encouraged - there are cycle areas in front of the line that cars are supposed to stop behind at traffic lights.

Can I see a picture of what you are talking about? It's really quite illogical because weaving through traffic with cars is generally not the safest thing to be doing with cars and yet it is with bicycles. More often than not weaving through traffic and running read lights only puts the bicyclists in position to hit a pedestrian who unlike the bicyclist has the right of way. Also, I realize that this has nothing to do with the op. I just got really annoyed to hell at the "protest group" that this guy is a part of after reading the wikipedia article.

Yeah, because THEY are entitled to everything, and everyone else is entitled to nothing. These are the sort of people who run cyclists off the road rather than slow down until it is safe to pass, because someone being injured is less meaningful to them than the inconvenience of having to move their foot a few inches, and lose a few seconds out of their day.
