while I support the riders in their struggle for bike-lanes, the idea of doing it naked just to offend Hasidic Jews is no way to build bridges of understanding.

now, is it fair for the Hasidim to try to impose their religious needs upon other people? nope. honestly, if this is how they really want things, they should form their own community upstate. if not, then they must expect and tolerate being offended in a multi-cultural city.

Uh, to break it to you, last time I remember any Police in NY doing that, they got to pay $29,000 for the privilege of an education about our legal system (I think it used to be a lot less, but really when a ruling is 17 years old, there's a basic expectation that the police should damn well know about it).

Not NYC council recognized. New York State law recognized, as guarenteed by our constitution as ruled by our state Supreme Court in 1992. NYC, Buffalo, Albany, same basic rights.

To get them to comply I'd suggest you find more fun girlfriends. Also wait a few months, because anyone who goes topless in this weather, man or woman, is a frikkin retard.

That is an interesting take, but it strikes me as rationalizing a bit.

Isn't it obvious that the intent of this sort of thing is basically the same as trolling on the web? It strikes me that this sort of thing is done specifically to offend and anger. I fail to see anything constructive in that sort of behavior. I certainly don't think the people in those neighborhoods will stop and go "hmmmm", and then reach your conclusion. I think they'll see it as an attack on their beliefs.

"Honestly, whether you agree with removing the bike lane or not (and I in general hate the bike lanes all over the city!), the response of the cyclists is pretty disgusting, showing complete insensitivity. Is using influence in the city council to inconvenience people and restrict their ability to move through certain areas of the city because of the way they dress an act not an attack on their beliefs?

I mean suppose someone rerouted a sidewalk because of the number of Hassidic Jews that used it. And the Jews marched in protest, with their beards and their stupid hats and their clothes and stuff. Would that not, essentially, be the same thing?

Yet somehow I have this sneaking suspicion you and Parky's friend would support them...
