Being Asian While having a Soft Skull

Ironically, last summer a coalition of civil rights groups reported that African Americans are disproportionately subject to prosecution under hate crime laws.

It isn't ironic at all that they would push the idea that blacks were disproportionately subject to prosecution for hate crimes. But, maybe they just commit a disproportionate amount of hate crimes? This wouldn't be shocking at all, considering overall violent crime statistics.

They sure don't seem to get a "disproportionate" amount of media coverage for hate crimes, though.

The irony is, the statement was made that "authorities are generally less likely" to bring charges where the subject is a minority group member. Only that seems not to be the case.

I still believe this is true, based on many of the similarly violent cases I've seen. I don't believe they pursue these hate crime charges as aggressively when minorities are involved. If they did, the numbers would be even higher.

This incident happened not far from where I live. In fact, at first my wife thought she knew the woman who was beaten (that turned out not to be the case). People in the community where this attack took place -- southwest Yonkers -- have emphasized there seems to be a mental illness issue involved. About four years ago the attacker made threats of violence against Bank of America officials whom he claimed had stolen money from his bank account. I don't think there was any action taken against him in that instance.

I was last in Yonkers about 30 years ago. It was a horrible area, and there were clearly mentally ill people on the street. I believe there was a YWCA where one of my exes relatives was staying. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this guy was mentally ill.

That being said, I think it is well-established that there is friction between the Asian and Black communities, in certain areas.

There is a YouTube and Facebook channel called "bad lip reading." I've thought about doing something similar here on the ISF called "bad mind reading" because y'all really suck at it.

Seems that white racists have uniquely soft skulls. This case the woman survives a sustained beating, meanwhile our white racist got yeeted to the afterlife with one bop to the chin. Maybe there's some natural selection at work?

It's gonna be awesome when the racial grievance industry starts calling hate crime laws racist.

I'm particularly looking forward to watching Ibrham "a racist policy is any measure that produces or sustains racial inequity between racial groups" Kendi's pea brain meltdown over this disparity.

If that's what you're looking forward to, you must have very little going on from day-to-day.

If it turns out that this lady initiated a verbal confrontation, say, by twice calling this guy a racial slur, would this case also be an "understandable" crime of passion? "Understandable" sounds a lot like apologism, to me. At some point we need to stop making excuses for violent behavior. It is a lot easier to do when the assault isn't caught on video, I suppose.

This is why I am happy there is a hate come charge in this case. I believe that authorities are generally less likely to bring such charges when the perpetrator is a minority.

My only point there is crimes of passion are understandable sometimes just cause you can almost put yourself in the perpetrator's shoes but ultimately inexcusable and have to be punished cause the public may be prone to side with the perp otherwise.

In addition to beating up the elderly lady -- apparently after the attacker, Tammel Esco, shouted a racial slur at the Asian woman -- he's been in trouble routinely, reportedly with a record of 14 arrests and convictions. The most serious was a 2010 stabbing incident for which he served 42 months in prison. He was reportedly arrested last year for pushing a woman through a plate glass window. She was not seriously hurt and Esco was given a conditional discharge after he agreed to attend a five month substance abuse program. The Real Mango dot com

Link to Esco's Twitter account in which he rants against various targets. Some of his 'tweets' seem incoherent. I mentioned his fury at Bank of America which he claimed stole money from his account.

A link to the surveillance cam video of the attack on the 67-year-old woman. It has a 'disturbing, graphic' warning and below is a link, it is only viewable ON YouTube:

Community activists in the neighborhood where this happened are arguing that, as heinous as this crime is -- and it IS nasty, he beat her up for over two minutes -- we need to devise better and more effective ways of dealing with mentally disturbed people. Not let them roam around until they either seriously injure someone or harm themselves.

Just an update on a particularly heinous crime. Three and a half weeks after the assault, the 67-year-old woman is out of the hospital. Although badly beaten, with a number of facial bone fractures, the woman is expected to fully recover. Her family says the incident began when she walked past 42-year-old Tammel Esco and he cursed her, calling her an "Asian bitch." Her family says she ignored the comment. She did not realize he was following her into the building lobby until it was too late. Tammel Esco lives in the same building as the woman.

The woman, who has never been identified by name, has had a GoFundMe account begun for her. Over 1,000 people have donated close to $50,000. Her family says she plans to leave the area.

Tammel Esco was remanded to Westchester County Jail after his arrest by Yonkers police. He is reportedly being held on no bail. Police verified Esco has a record of 14 previous arrests. That he served a prison sentence -- apparently 32 months, not 42 months as previously reported -- stemming from a stabbing incident in 2010. Esco got into an angry confrontation with the mother of his daughter and stabbed the mother.

Tammel Esco has pleaded guilty and will be sentenced to 17.5 years in prison. NBC News reports:
The New York man who was caught on video punching an elderly Asian woman more than 100 times this year pleaded guilty Tuesday to a hate crime, officials announced. Tammel Esco, 42, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault as a hate crime, a violent felony, the Westchester County district attorney’s office said in a statement. In a plea deal, he will be sentenced on Nov. 29 to 17½ years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision, the statement said. NBC News link

What normal people see: Mentally disturbed individual with a history of violence, including a jail term for same, beats up horribly on an old woman. Everyone is horrified. Support floods in for victim. Questions asked about how it could have happened. Protagonist gets a lengthy jail sentence.

What Bogative sees: Oh goody! Another chance to ding that bell - "all blacks are violent rapists and deserve to be persecuted, but leftist bleeding-heart libs love them and will excuse them regardless just because they are black."

And Bogie wonders why he is thought of as something nasty you scrape off your shoe.

Blacks and Asians don't have a great history of love, in the US. This was a hate crime.

Man accused of punching 67-year-old Asian woman 125 times in N.Y. pleads guilty to hate crime

No doubt that a lot of liberals would line up to support this guy, on principle. He is black, after all. Stats be damned! Look at post #2 in this thread.

You don't find Bogative defending this person and their terrible crime disgusting?

Yawn. This is what "critical thought" around here has become, I suppose. As I have been pointing out recently, feigned ignorance is becoming a mainstay of this forum. Sadly.

You are telling me that Bogative's post was not serious, that he posted in bad faith.

Never!

Talk about yawning, the smug superiority act is v-e-r-y boring.

You seem unaware that ‘none’ and’ a lot’ are not synonyms.

I can see this presenting a quandary for the racists (virtually all trump voters, for example). On the one hand, he assaulted a minority, one that may even be an immigrant (double points). OTOH, he’s Black…….

I can't imagine what it feels like, thinking you are surrounded by 70 million racists. That must really suck.

Come on, you really should show more empathy. After all, it must be really frustrating to post in a forum where you're denied your usual go-to move of calling liberals cucks and pedos.
