This again? I thought it had been discredited already.

Can anyone smarter then me discuss this?

(Sorry still can't post linkies)

They've been looking at cellphones for quite some time, as I'm sure you know.

According to the Wiki page, there are a lot of proposed ideas:

While the USDA last updated their page in December, 2010, they stated:

What about cell phones—do they have anything to do with CCD?

The short answer is no.

There was a very small study done in Germany that looked at whether a particular type of base station for cordless phones could affect honey bee homing systems. But, despite all the attention that this study has received, it has nothing to do with CCD. Stefan Kimmel, the researcher who conducted the study and wrote the paper, recently e-mailed The Associated Press to say that there is "no link between our tiny little study and the CCD-phenomenon ... anything else said or written is a lie."

Your link quotes a Swiss study, but the details are lacking in the article.

I wonder how often beehives have active cell phones directly underneath them.

Even worse than I expected. How do these people call themselves journalists?

I thought they figured out CCD? It's caused by a combination of a fungus, and a virus, isn't it?

Bees should definitely not use cell phones. I mean, how the heck are they supposed to fly safely with all that distraction?

This is not cool. I have a bee colony that has formed outside my house under the eaves of the roof and I thought I could get rid of it using my cell phone. I've racked up $100s worth in overage bills and now I learn that it's not going to work? I think the newspapers should pay my phone bill.

At last a potentially legit reason to kill/greatly curtail cell phones

Ah who am I kidding - even if all this and the worst of the possible implications prove true, our society/world is far too stupid to choose bees (ie our food chain) over our precious cell phones. At least we'll go down swinging I mean chatting :boggled:

You copied the link wrong. And I think this was already posted here.

Was it about cell phones aggravating bees? Where the study actually showed that a cell phone placed on top of a bee hive and left on and transmitting for hours just made the bees "pipe"?

Fox "News" and "Page Not Found" (at least for me).

Not a very convicing argument overall.
