Beatle Bush Bash!

I had a bizarre coincidence involving Paul McCartney a few years ago.
A few of us were on the Brighton sea-front, arguing about who'd written a song (the title now escapes me) - I was convinced it was by the Beatles and was vocally proclaiming this when I look up to see none other than Sir Paul riding his bike past us.
He looked at me, gave a wink and said: 'it was by The Kinks actually' :D

Ebony and Ivory, on the other hand, there is no excuse for whatsoever.

That one and "The Girl Is Mine". Both are enough for his own personal ring in Hell.

applecorped, I just listened to that one. game, set, and match.

I was always under the impression it was "but if this ever changin' world in which we're living..."
That's how he sings it live, and how it sounds to me on the original recording. I've learned you can't always trust liner lyrics or even sheet music to be right.

I have a certain fondness for Mull of Kintyre, as it was a Christmas hit in my teens, and therefore the excuse for one or two slow dances. :)

Ebony and Ivory, on the other hand, there is no excuse for whatsoever. The bland leading the blind, or vice versa? Either way, Paul and Stevie should be very ashamed of themselves.
Agreed on Mull, but not on E & I. I believe the millions of people who (seem to) proclaim to hate that song just got sick of the amount of airplay it received. Had it been an non-hit "filler," people would have considered it one of his better ones. Simplistic lyrics perhaps, but there really isn't anything wrong with it.

Has anyone here seen either of those for certain? I think the problem with a lot of the online lyric sites is that the lyrics have been written down from listening to the records and not always, it seems from some of the errors, by a native English speaker.

I have a fake book with a lot of McCartney songs in it; IIRC Live and Let Die is in there, and the lyrics are "we live in." But even in fake books they can get it wrong. I'll dig it up tonight.
