Split Thread BBC news reporting

Huh? What? Again, this is nothing to do with the BBC, just free association.

You hear the word liberal and you fill in the rest “liberal elite University which cancels gender critical…”

Is this supposed to be analysis or something?
He's been attacked by the intelligent, educated segment of the culture.

So in those ten years, the supposed “government-controlled” BBC (your claim for those keeping up) became a “liberal cult” (your claim again, voiced by Allison Pearson) run by “po-faced Maoists” (again, your claim) under a Tory government?

Do you see how maybe your analysis is about as laser-focused as explosive diarrhea?
Everything inside your bubble is "rightthink"
Everything outside your bubble is "wrongthink".
That about sums up the elite liberal culture

It doesnt take long for political tribalism to turn a place into a shambles... Look at this forum for example. It was once a bastion of commonsense skepticism and critical thinking across the political spectrum... now its just a progressive liberal echo chamber for the cult of the left, with a few posters holding the line - theprestige, Ziggurat, Rolfe, Emily's Cat, myself and a few others. Its been sad watching its demise.

"Toxic workplace cultures" don't change quickly at all. We wouldn't call them cultures if they did.

Are you proposing an entryist cadre of Maoists took over the BBC newsroom some time in the last decade?
You snipped out the bit that answered your question.

Seriously, if you don't think a workplace culture can change dramatically in less than ten years, you don't have much in the way of workplace experience (for reference, I have almost 55 years of such experience. I have seen a workplace of over 60 people go from a happy one, to a toxic one and back to a happy one again, all the space of less than five years - and all it took was a personnel change involving only three people - one boss and two managers)

Think Boeing (ask @Trebuchet)

do you not see even the smallest trace of irony in what you are saying here?

You have made no argument whatsoever and merely divided the forum into two tribes, naming the members of your tribe no less, and then bemoaning the tribalism.

Can you really not see what you are doing?

You have not even addressed the contradictions I am pointing out. You didn't address what I said because you have simply dismissed my post as "wrongthink".

Maybe you could go back and try to explain how:

a) someone can be a liberal and also a Maoist
b) how the BBC can be a government propaganda arm and yet be pushing leftism under a right-wing government.

I am asking you to defend your arguments intellectually and not run away and claim everyone is tribal except your tribe.

During the 14 years of the government which ended up the most corrupt and incompetent in living memory I excused the BBC's sucking up to them as something they had to do to survive (though I was one of the many who seriously wondered whether Laura Kuenssberg was literally in love with Boris Johnson). But if that was the explanation they would now be similarly sucking up to the current Labour government, and their coverage of them is mostly negative. Then there's their platforming of Reform, especially on Question Time.

The BBC News website is still my main source of news, especially international news, but for national politics I stopped fully trusting them about ten years ago.

Yep. The accusations of bias are ridiculous.

Your current government is about equally corrupt...

- Angela Rayner dodgy stamp duty underpayment on Hove property.
- Rachel Reeves straight-up lying to parliament (and the public) about a £multi-billion fiscal black hole and using it to justify tax hikes when she damned well knew there was a fiscal surplus.
- Angela Rayner (again) this time using a dodgy trust in an attempt to help her children avoid inheritance tax
- Kier Starmer's dodgy 1500% profit on land for donkeys deal
- Cancelling mayoral elections in Greater Essex, Norfolk & Suffolk, Hampshire & the Solent, and Sussex & Brighton - all areas where Reform were clearly leading in the polls. - the optics of this are terrible!!
- Appointing Peter Mandelson as US Ambassador when they KNEW he had close ties with Jeffrey Epstein. This was unforgivable!!
- Tried to cover up Starmer Aide Paul Ovenden's sexually explicit and offensive remarks about Dianne Abbot (I have seen the remarks - they are disgusting - Overnden is a first class creep!)

You only have to look at the contrasting experiences of journalists with right wing backgrounds, for example Andrew Neal and Nick Robinson both of whom had been significant figures in Conservative local politics, founding and leading Conservative groups and associations and who were raised to BBC Politics Editor level with that of Lewis Goodall who quit because he was subjected to editorial interference by Robbie Gibb (ex Communictions Director to Theresa May, Brother of Tory MP Sir Nick Gibb and Johnson appointed Non-exec Director on the BBC Board, a role that should have included no editorial influence) because he'd been an ordinary Labour Party member as a teenager. Or Emily Maitlis who was censured for, accurately, describing Dominic Cummings Barnard Castle adventures as 'breaking the rules'.

What has this got to do with the BBC?

It was your claim, still dodged, that the BBC was government controlled, making your other claim, that it is a "liberal cult" full of "po-faced Maoists", somewhat bizarre given that it was under a Tory government for 14 years.

So which is it? Is the BBC in fact independent, or is the Tory party part of the liberal cult of po-faced Maoists?

You are Nigel Farage and I claim my £5

Not sure whether this should be here or in the "UK has lost freedom of speech" thread. I'm sure it's just more evidence of the BBC's left-wing pro-trans bias.
When it comes to trans rights, the BBC has been trying to please both sides.
But it's interesting that its conservative critics still regard them as a front for pro-trans propaganda.
Maybe a few more concessions will win them over?

Assuming I've not cocked-up the link, here is Robin's 'letter' on his Instagram page.

A question that comes to mind is, what will Brian Cox do? Carry on as normal with a new partner (Dara O'Briain?) or resign as well? The latter would cause problems with his other Beeb programmes.
