edit: I think I understand now. When a Democrat claims that a Republican will start a draft, it is a kooky conspiracy theory. But when a Republican says that a Democrat will start a draft, then it is a plausible theory. Does that pretty much sum it up?

Don't bother....he'll just claim he was joking about the whole draft thing. But the thing is, he can't really claim it was a joke. I specifically asked him in that thread: "This thread is a joke, right?". The point of asking that was to insure that corplinx couldn't go back on what he said once people debunked his theory.
The funny thing is, this isn't really a big deal. Corplinx made a simple mistake, I even gave him a chance to state that, and I would have just dropped the whole thing. But he continues to start threads such as this one, and he goes around calling other people woo woos when they do the same thing as he does. And since this is a 'skeptics' forum, I feel that I have an obligation to call him on his flip flops and double standards.

Forgive me for not thwacking the right wing kooks so badly but their black helicoptors and new world order garbage was always laughed at and never taken seriously. We need some balance in pointing out the blue state looniness.

I wouldn't know, I have him on ignore. He stalks me from thread to thread to posting that same thread. He doesn't understand what "this is just speculation" means apparently and when Brown stated that nobody would reinstate the draft because its a political death sentence, he must have missed me saying Brown hit the nail on the head.

I'm not sure why he got his panties all in a bunch over that thread. All I know is he needs to get a life and stop thinking he has some gotcha he can throw in my face to derail my threads. Of course, having him on ignore helps but then people respond to him. ::cough::

Well, let's see...
1) Democrat Charles Rangel introduces a bill in the House to reinstate the draft;
2) Democrat Fritz Hollings introduces a similar bill in the Senate to reinstate the draft;
3) Democrat John Kerry says we need 40,000 more troops in Iraq to do the job properly;
4) Republican George W. Bush says in no uncertain terms, that he will oppose reinstatment of the draft;
5) House Republicans force a vote on Rangel's bill and make sure it gets crushed flatter than that squirrel I saw on the road this morning.

Now why should I be so silly as to think the Democrats want to reinstate the draft, just because they introduced two bills to reinstate the draft?
 
Whats really "woo woo" is how people easily dismiss the idea that a draft will happen.

The no draft reasons are:

1) people dont like it

Since when has anyone liked the draft?? NEVER! Yet we have used the draft.

2) military doesnt like it.

I understand they rather have an all Volunteer army. They also would rather have the war over. Wishing doesnt make it so. The army would also perfer not to use reserves, yet thats just what they are doing now.

3) we have enough troops.

More wishful thinking. The fact that Iraq is out of control. We here lots of educated opinions that we dont have enough troops, and there doesnt seem to be any real exit in the near future. You cant use the reserves forever, Iraq has no end in sight, its an unpopular war that hurts recruiting efforts.

The "no chance of a draft" people seem to have their patriotic blinders on.

I'm just a realist. Bush will avoid it like crazy because he has 4 years to get tax reform, ss reform, intelligence reform, military reform, etc done before the white house could be under new control.

If he loses the house/senate in 2 years, he will be a lame duck president.

I think rumors of the draft will continue to be propagated to erode support of the war.

At least with Republicans in charge, there will be an easy way out of being drafted--make out with another guy while waiting in line for the medical exam.

Young people still drawn to join armed services

"Although the specter of a draft was raised during the recent presidential campaign, Pentagon figures indicate the services have been able to maintain force levels through recruiting new troops and retention of those already in the service.

All services except the National Guard exceeded their goals for recruiting and retention for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30.

"We're 31 years into the all-volunteer force, and sufficient numbers of American men and have chosen to pursue enlistment," said S. Douglas Smith, a spokesman for the Army Recruiting Command at Fort Knox, Ky.

Smith said that for the last fiscal year, goals of 77,000 new recruits for the regular Army and 21,200 for the Army Reserve were exceeded.

The Marine Corps, which has been involved in some of the heaviest fighting in Iraq, exceeded its recruiting goal of 36,773, the 10th straight year it has done so.

The Navy and Air Force are actually over strength and have to find ways to cut forces.

The Navy met its recruiting goal of 39,700 and 11,500 active but will have to cut 8,000 others from its ranks during the current fiscal year.

The Air Force is 20,000 troops over its limit and also will have to start reducing its ranks. The Pentagon has instituted a "Blue to Green" program in which Air Force personnel can switch to the Army.

The Army has been authorized 30,000 additional soldiers over the next three fiscal years to help it meet the demands for troops."

OK, got them before posting this: Patton, McArthur, Nathan Bedford Forrest, Oliver Hazard Perry.

Hmmmm, lets see:

Patton--slaps privates. Not PC, so he's out.
McArthur--Smoking is bad for you. But ego level would be a good fit.
Forrest--slave Trader, Slaveowner, one of KKK founders. I don't think so.
O.H. Perry--Well, he did beat up on the British, which should make aup happy, and his favorite quote "Don't give up the ship!" would fit aup's posting style.

Or may Admiral Farragut, with "D**m the torpedo's, full speed ahead" would be a better moniker for a_u_p.

The really sad part of this is that the very best, responsible, and loyal of our young are the ones to voluntarily shoulder the burden of freedom.

Then the liberal idiots of this same generation use that freedom in irresponsible and hedonistic ways while rhetorically pissing on the very people who make their freedoms possible.
