Bachmann's surprise visit to synagogue backfires hilariously

It bothers me that she chose Yom Kippur to visit. That's like stopping by your old high school girlfriend's house on the day of her mom's funeral. It's a day for quiet introspection. Since she wasn't there to worship, she shouldn't have been there at all.

It's a new age of insensitivity for GOP politicians, some of whom don't seem to bother checking anything since the internet made it so easy to do, which is odd.

Very much so! And Happy Birthday!

Though, she could have gone to speak so long as she had modified her message in the spirit of the day. Talk of "Our shared faith in the Highest" and similar warm platitudes, and she would have wound up looking quite good.

Not that odd. These folks could be avoiding the internet in an effort to teach the internet a lesson after it made it so hard to Google Rick Santorum.

Never before have I seen so many republicons make such grotesque clowns of themselves during a presidential election year.

Have Democratic reptilian ninjas kidnapped all the professional campaign managers from the right and replaced them with kakimaze chamelleon advisers?

Note to Michelle's handlers: You would've had better luck at an Orthodox shul. Not much better luck, and she'd have to sit in the women's section, but they wouldn't have been quite so pissed off to have her there. Your best bet would be to seek out your local Chabad-Lubavitchers.

Happy or not, the orthodox wouldn't leave before services ended.

In Michelle Bachmann's defense, I also did not know what "Conservative Synagogue" meant before yesterday. I might have also assumed that it meant politically conservative. However, unlike Bachmann, I think I would have checked it out before I made plans based on my assumptions.

Yes, one would think that one would know a little something about the venue to which one is speaking.

Derp.

If Bachmann had a similar ignorance to yours on this, and that was the reason she visited that particular location, then that is hilarious. Conservative Judaism permits ordination of gay/lesbian rabbis, for instance.

You know Jesse Ventura wouldn't have made the same mistake with a Reform congregation.

Why is Yom Kippur so special to Jews? I remember reading about a New York editorial writer complaining about Ahmadinejad giving his talk at the UN on that day.

It's arguably the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. For someone who writes a lot about Jews, you don't seem to know much about them.
