The Greens and the Coalition now both have blood on their hands. A solution (perhaps imperfect) to stop the boats was at hand. Abbott is scum.

Er... who was it that opened the flood gates by dismantling a working policy?
And who was it that would not meet the one and only sticking point for the coalition?

Yep, it was Gillard. A problem of her own making and a solution she could have had but chose not to take.

Another example of why she is useless.

By the way Alfie, do you actually know the Coalition policy? It's to tow the bloody boats back to where they came from including to Malaysia, regardless of whether these destinations have signed the refugee convention or not. Do you support this policy? A very simple question.

The actual policy finishes with "when safe to do so". As I understand it this was also in place in the Pacific Solution. Did it ever occur?

So you refuse to address the Coalition's refugee policy. No great surprise.

Answer the question I asked earlier. Do you support Abbot's plan to tow the boats back to where they came from?

I don't really expect a response as you don't seem to even know what the Coalition's policy is.

And I should ask, should the boats be towed back to Malaysia?

The Coalition's policies are laughable.

The Coalition's policies are laughable.

I'll tell you what, you answer my questions and I will answer yours. I await a genuine response to this..

So you are suggesting that Gillard should offer a compromise and then withdraw that offer.

Nice

Or perhaps, you are saying that Labor should stick to their Malaysian solution guns and allow more deaths at sea.
(an explanation: I might have been clearer previously - I am saying that if Labor were/are to dig their heels in - as they have done coincidentally - and not negotiated we would see no change and more deaths)

Even nicer.

So what was it you meant when you said you couldn't believe Labor were negotiating/compromising (owtte)? What would you like to see happen?

I will not hold my breath.

No one actually has any idea what 'safe to do so means', since it has never been defined. The people will be turned back to Indonesia, which is not a signatory to the refugee convention that Abbott holds to be so important. Typically of Abbott, he has no idea what he actually means about anything, beyond a sound bite's worth of words. Sadly, that's all you need to be elected PM of Australia these days.

No one actually has any idea what 'safe to do so means', since it has never been defined.

Perhaps it simply hangs as an additional deterrent - a hollow slogan.

That said, there were four boats returned in 2002. Gillard thought the idea a good one then:

“The Navy has turned back four boats to Indonesia. They were in sea-worthy shape and arrived in Indonesia. It has made a very big difference to people-smuggling that that happened… And we think turning boats around that are seaworthy, that can make the return journey, and are in international waters, fits in with that.”
(Julia Gillard, Press conference, 3/12/2002)

Joe Hockey's false emotion when he was speaking in Parliament yesterday about the Malaysian solution. He was near crying when he was talking about never sending a 13 year old child alone back to Malaysia. Yet his own policy is to turn the boats around. But he does not mention the traveling alone minors on those boats.
And the big fat crocodile tears of Senator Sarah Hanson-Young when she was talking in the senate yesterday about the children drowning.
Both Coalition and Greens disgust me for rejecting a far from perfect solution that can be worked upon when the emotion and heat comes out of the boat arrivals.
They disgust me to my core.

As does the Labor party and the morons greens mine. There would not have been some 800 deaths had they not tampered with a policy that worked. It is Labor and the greens with blood on their hands and no one should forget it.

Gillard was also an advocate of turning the boats around as per above. The hypocrisy crosses many divides and the current government is at the head of an ugly list.

Nearly two years after Tony Abbott vowed to tear down the beginnings of the national broadband network and to "demolish" it, the Coalition now says it will not roll back or cancel it, if it comes to power at the next election.

Finally seeing some sense about one thing at least. Perhaps it's because Turnbull is in charge of it, and not Abbott. There 'better and cheaper' is a little doubtful, but it's a welcome change from the relentless, destructive negativism of the Liberal Party under Abbott.

Australia has massive over population problems. Evidence of this can be seen in the no go areas of Northern Europe. The slut is hell bent on ruining Australia. This nation cannot support anymore illegal black asian terrorist people. I think we should use the leaky boats as target practice for any navy and coast guard. I'm not racist, I'm just a man on the street. All of them think like me because I spoke to one yesterday while I was squirting my hose at a passing squinty eyed thing.

Er.....I think I just channeled someone?

9/10

You forgot, "This makes the Gillard regime look even more ridicules in kicking it's own goal and risking the well been of the Australian economy by jumping the gun and introducing a carbon tax. Also, chinese TV sets."

But apart from that it was pretty good.

Scary, actually.

I'm trying to send off my application to the WA Young Labor. What am I doing?

I think the universe is trying to send me a message because nothing is happening on the payment page. I even clicked "Authorise Payment" a few more times, too. It just practically refreshes but no message of receipt comes up. I may well have blown a couple of hundred of bucks. :D Wait a minute... that's not funny.

The little green line runs over the icon on the taskbar, so something's happening in this window, but that tab isn't budging and it has been far longer than "60 seconds", which is how long it says it might take "so be patient". ETA: Turns out it was an unrelated PDF that was loading.

Nope. I even tried it in another browser just to be sure. Everything's loaded on the page, there's just nothing new there. It's exactly as I was when I authorised the payment.

I just turned off AdBlock and it took me back to the homepage. Man, what a sucky system this is.
