Merged Australian Politics / Australian election

1. What has that got to do with anything Norman Alexander said?
2. This could be said of the Labor Party too. They got rid of 2-3 PMs because they thought they could not win with these people.

Isn't that the reason any party changes their leader?

Ayup. E.g. Kevin07.

Which also leads to the question of why Abbott and Dutton were even considered electable candidates let alone leaders.

Norman Alexander gave a totally different reason why Turnbull was deposed. Did you read it?
Different reason to what? Turnbull was fair-minded to his team and allowed a leadership spill. They were (and remain) a bunch of scruple-free soulless scoundrels, and Dutton gunned for him by undermining him. Scomo was installed as his replacement, because even the Lib sharks can't stomach Dutton as PM. And look what a great job "Can't hold a hose" Scomo did!

Here's the Fin Review for you to read.

Turnbull got "hounded out" because he was leading the Libs to a defeat in the polls. He squandered any good will the Libs had with the public by calling an early double dissolution election for no good reason.
The reason he was polling badly was that he was continually undermined by the extreme right so he looked weak.

His downfall was calling an early double dissolution election - NOT trying to placate the right.
Nope. It was allowing a leadership spill, that was actually rigged against him by Dutton. I always reckoned it was Abbott trying to get revenge after Turnbull finally turfed him from the job previously for being such a destructive little ****. That destabilised and fractured the party, and led to a second spill shortly thereafter.

Did you read the Fin Review at all?

Once I got around the paywall I did. But I can't place much stock in a journalist who describes the government's standing at the time as "competitive". All the polls at that time showed that the Turnbull government was about to get their asses whipped.

Dutton would never have been able to destabilize Turnbull if the government was riding high in the polls.

Plus Abbott plus Scomo plus a whole lot of other right wing ratbags, who were all as popular with the electorate as a wet fart in a space suit.

That is not a cause of his poor polling, it is an effect. His early double dissolution decision was an own goal.

The weirdest thing about that, was he claimed to need a double dissolution to get rid of the minor parties, but a double dissolution makes it much easier for the minors to gain seats, because the quota in the Senate is halved.

I suspect it was a case of a former media advisor (Scummo) being out of his depth in the top job, and listening to priests rather than actual political advisors.

Wrong politician. It was Turnbull who called the early election.

He had the delusion that he was so popular that not only could he get a bigger majority in the House of Representatives but he could gain a majority in the Senate too.

Apparently Morrison's farewell dinner has been cancelled because of a lack of RSVPs.

I only found out about this because people have been talking about Engadine Maccas.

That is behind a paywall. This one is not

This one does not appear to be serious, but what happens if it is right?
In a Fitting Tribute to Scott Morrison, His Farewell Dinner Has Been Announced but Will Not Be Implemented

Organisers of the event said they wanted to create a send-off for Morrison that captured the essence of his time in office. “When we thought back to what he had achieved as PM we came up with absolutely nothing. And that’s when we knew we’d hit on the perfect farewell,” one of the organisers said. “What better way to honour the man than with an elaborately-announced but never-actually-implemented leaving do?”
Reminds me of an episode of Yes Prime Minister.
