Most of Australians weren’t even born before the White Australia Policy was abolished. And there has been no hiding that it happened and that it was a shameful period for the nation.

For the record we are now a nation where the majority has at least one parent born overseas. We are more multicultural than nearly every other and most celebrate it.

Not just that, but Australia in 1955 was a very different place, in part because of the White Australia policy. Racism was far more commonplace because it was accepted. As he said, it was unlikely for anyone in that age to not be racist. It wasn't "swept under the rug". This interview in fact is so famous that it's in Wikipedia.
 
Sorry, not working; you are all readonable for a little while, and just when I start thinking that tvere actually is a place called Australia, and then you go and do spmethin like this. Not buying it anymore. Drop crocs. Sure. I wasn't born yesterday.

Now you'll have to excuse me while I transfer some money to a friend, who has lost his phone, passport and travel funds. Luckily, the police in Freedonia is helping him out by messaging me!
