Atheists on the march. Oh my.

What do JW's have to say to people who are only alive because of blood transfusions?
In my family, the RH problem reared its ugly head.

Because of this, my mother had two still births and lost a pair of twins.

Two of my brothers and myself are only alive because we had transfusions at birth.

While I know there are now other ways to deal with RH, which saved my son from needing a transfusion, those options weren't available in the 60s.

I've had JWs in the past try to tell me that they would never allow there own child to have a transfusion and that my mother should have let my brothers and I die.

How can they possibly justify this stand and expect someone who is alive only because of a transfusion to agree with them?

A bit off topic but I dearly loath this religion.

They wouldn't. The family that lived across the street from me had some that were witness'. One of the uncles, who was a witness was diagnosed with Lukemia and died because he opted not to take the transplant.

Do you have the tract that ha the title "They Chose God" Thats the tract that has two preteen boys and a preteen girl who died because they refused to have a blood transfusion.

Err.... NO?! Not seen that one. Is that on general release? I can't see that drumming up much support.

They may have pulled that one. I used to have it years ago but I threw it away in disgust. I wish I had kept it.

Hmm... I was kicking it with the J'dub homies back in the day and I must say I don't remember that one. You sure it wasn't an article in one of their yearbooks instead? You know, the book that doesn't get peddled door to door? I can try and sneak onto the family PC tonight and check, they have a cd of all the JW publications and I think it includes tracts.

How did you post that before my reply? Are you a wizard?? :)

Ahh it's an Awake! Ruddy hell! That means they would have taken it out and offered it to non-JW's! The mind boggles!

I like JW witness. I had the most darndest and funniest conversation with them. Too bad I did not do the same type of joke many had with them (like pretending to need somebody for a demon summoning ritual sacrifice).

I don't know, I'm kinda liking the idea of marching over to JW's houses at 7am Saturday mornings and handing out pamphlets warning them of JW's in their neighbourhood...

The big quesiton is...would they have put God first if they had the opportunity to know things other than what their parents taught them?

I had two close friends in high school who were Jehova's Witnesses. They were very VERY sheltered. We always had to hang out at their houses because they just weren't allowed to do anything or go anywhere.

Pretty much as soon as they were adults and out on their own and actually exposed to ideas other than what their parents had allowed them to be exposed to, they stopped being JW very quickly.

The few times I've had JWs visit I've always gone with the aggressively cheerful and polite method. Let them see what a nice, kind, friendly person I am and even invite them in for a cup of water or maybe some tea. I'll listen pleasantly to whatever they have to say and ask questions until they slowly start to realize that I am an agnostic atheist who considers their religion just as valid as worshiping Zeus or Odin. Usually they start to become quite flustered since I never gave them anything to get a grip on or dislike about me. It's really quite amusing.

I wonder why they don't visit me any more? I enjoyed those little chats. Maybe I should go on the march, I can bring cookies!
