Only if you're running a hate group.
Or, if this thread is to be believed, if you're a contributor.
Only if you're running a hate group.
I was using the SPLC as a group that's a fairly prominent example, in the US, of a group publicly condemning others based on their own standards.
The feature, block and report for spam, "was reserved for fake accounts spamming, or sock accounts created to threaten and abuse people," didn't work, and was voluntarily removed from the bot.
It was removed because it didn't work, and because it broke the Terms of Service of Twitter and they were scared of negative consequences. Not because they thought it was morally wrong.
I don't know who poster e4e5 is over on A+ but I take my hat off to him/her for some fine skepticism and critical thinking over on their mental health in Vancouver thread.
Not only did e4e5 dispel their assumptions that he/she was posting from an abelist perspective but he/she also exposed the chemgeek blatantly making things up as well.
Keep in mind though, this is just the city of Vancouver being discussed, the greater Vancouver area is significantly larger.
I'm not sure I've heard mere profanity labeled as anyone's trigger, but I've certainly heard people explain that the insults and personal attacks were problematic. It may be impossible to reconcile people's need to express anger with a safe space, and the mods at atheismplus have chosen to allow the former perhaps at the expense of the latter.
Here you go, FMW.
Ah, thanks. The one sub-forum I didn't think to look in. That maroon, Setar, put it in "Organization, Activism and Charity"?
Qwints,... when you're around.... When is someone going to just call out Setar for being a posturing buffoon, instead of scratching behind the ears until he/she purrs? If that was really a case of being misled by biased news outlets, why not check the report itself. And then you help the doubling down by acknowledging that the overall report is rather good - hell, it's excellent considering it comes from half-input by the PD, if you ask me - but that they had some sentences in there that weren't kosher. Jeez, Louise. If I saw that kind of report out of the Mayor's office in Los Angeles or Dallas or Miami, I'd be thrilled at the progress being made.
Oh, and Ischemgeek looks so lovely in the new egg-on-face motif.

You couldn't ask for a better demonstration of the [foo]-splaining (mansplaining, ablesplaining, thinsplaining, notamoronsplaining) construct being used as a means of censoring rational debate.
It's a malignant absurdity that in a community claiming to position itself as being rational, a person should need to defend their arguments in terms of who they are instead of in terms of whether their premises are factual and their arguments valid.
What e4e5 was saying would be equally true whether it was being said by a depressive, an schizophrenic, a mentally well person or Hitler. The fact that they had to invoke their own mental illness in order to be allowed to speak shows how dysfunctional that community is.

that you have a mental illness does not mean you can dismiss the perceptions of others with mental illnesses with impunity. Do not assume your experience of mental illness is universal. Rather than stating your opinion as if it's universal fact ("Mentally folk people are not shown as a danger to society."), try stating your opinions as opinions (phrasing the previous as an "I think" statement would have not invalidated others' perceptions in the way that stating it as a universal did) and seeking to understand why Setar and others perceive ableism from what the Mayor's office said and how the statement was framed.
Speaking of Organization, Activism, and Charity, they've almost reached their goal for their Skepticon fundraiser. Andy the Nerd just donated 250 bucks which puts them only 60 dollars away. Grimalkin said he hasn't had any applications for the grant, however. Can't imagine why not, when they've done such a good job throwing everyone else out of their safe sandbox.![]()

Here's a nugget of funny that came up recently on Pharyngula. I can't post links proper because I'm new here, but you know the drill:

Aspiring master chemist "Esteleth, statistically significant to p ≤ 0.001" informs us in a discursive, clumsily written post that "1 liter is by definition 1 billion microliters." Well, no, that's actually a thousand liters. But what's a few orders of magnitude among the intellectual élites at Freethought Blogs?
Also, that "statistically significant to p ≤ 0.001" thing suggests that Esteleth does not know that rejecting a null hypothesis at such a low p-value is not necessarily impressive. For one thing, it becomes trivially easy to reject these sorts of hypotheses as sample size increases and, more importantly, statistical significance does not imply practical significance.
PeeZus himself apparently doesn't know what a p-value really means:

Freethought Blogs, Atheism+ and Skepchick are probably the most pitiful intellectual posers in the skeptical movement. Remember when Pharyngula commentor 'Tis Himself turned out to be a gigantic plagiarist? (atheismplus <DOT> com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=134&start=25#p4290) He is just a poster child for everything that is wrong with those people. Is there any reason their constant slander and bullying should be put up with when they're so utterly mediocre?
