Actually, I have not seen much "Social Justice" in Atheism Plus so far. What I have seen is the creation of a safe place for the moderators so that they can humiliate, insult and ban unsuspecting forum participants, but not much else.

An elegant summary. :D

Oh man, that thread has pretty much all of my problems with the forum in it. It takes all the way until the end of the second page with SubMor's post to actually have a legit response to the OP.

Interesting how that one worked out in the end. I presume it's over as there's been no action. Well thanks to the JREF I no longer equate the word genderqueer with the word Setar. I think I have a grip on the idea now.

Well, I'd like to ask them too what they have done to make the world a better place. I think the most revealing bit was A+ founder Jen McGreight's complaint about that homeless guy who jacked off in her presence. Homeless people often have mental issues, and a guy masturbating in public certainly HAS issues. I feel pity for them. Jen doesn't. She turned this episode into another story about how she's sooo oppressed by men. Yeah right, she felt oppressed by an unprivileged sucker out of his mind. I think these A+ ******** are devoid of empathy, yet stuffed with sexual neuroses that let them fantasize about how men are fantasizing about them, and of course about rape, rape, rape, rape, rape.

Around the year 1999, I saw a documentary about hermaphroditic humans. Apparently, it's about one in 100, or greater. If true, that means we've all know hermaphrodites.

Watching that documentary, I was in the midst of trying to get pregnant. Those ideas made me remember when I was 13, in Jr High, and we all took a test to prove how different male and female brains are. I was the outlier. I was the girl with a "male brain". It didn't help that all of my school friends were guys.

So, when I finally got pregnant in 2003 and had a ultrasound, I HAD to ask the tech "Will you look at my ovaries? Are they normal?" (I was wondering if I might have a undecended testicle up there.)
Apparently my plumbing is fully female.

But, you don't HAVE to be a literal hermaphrodite to be genderqueer.

WTF?

It's about divorcing ourselves from the libertarian wing (ala Ayn Rand) of atheism. We have to do this to reach out and include POC (people of color) and other marginalized groups.

What makes you believe that "POC" were particularly eager to join your club? Are they supposed to feel flattered by the suggestion that having dark skin was comparable to the various disorders and confusions displayed by the A+ crowd?

Yes I"m aware that one doesn't have to be intersex to be genderqueer, were it so simple.....

I'm tending to thing of genderqueer as having some sort of psychological relationship with, or affinity for, intersex. Since we don't have full blown transsexualism, more like something on the transsexual scale, trans lite, if you will that has a substantial component of identity wrapped up in it.

If I may ask a personal question, do, or did you ever consider yourself as genderqueer ? I'm not thinking along the lines of tomboy or liking traditionally male things or pursuits but more along the lines of did you ever consider yourself to be partially male as part of your gender identity ?

Yes

PoC are supposed to feel "in solidarity" with every other marginalized group and be natural allies in sharing in the social justice mind set that hetero, white, neurotypical, cisgendered people. suck.

On the topic of reaching out and making atheism relevant to non-white people:

I'm not a fan of the YouTube talking-head thing but this was worth watching. Jen McCreight has really put her foot in it.

Edit: If you feel like you've got the point of it then nothing much new is added in the last ten minutes, except (unsurprisingly) that this guy was kicked out of the A+ forums. Except a great bit (maybe the best) from 14 minutes.

Thanks for sharing. I think this is actually the first clip to point out clearly all the levels on which this "reaching out" thing is just wrong.

In tonight's coverage of the ongoing A+ meltdown, we bring you two articles for your amusement and entertainment.

In the first, we have one of the most abusive and toxic APlussers complaining about another member being..yep you guessed it, abusive and toxic. See page 45 of their *Are the moderators here censorious, capricious and biased* thread for all the juicy details.

Our second item has A+ attempting to redefine atheism to fit their social justice model. According to this thread , atheism is now to anti-Christian only with all those other religions being given a pass 'cause, you know, social justice.

APlusser said:
Are you saying atheists should not be working to "tear down" Islam or Hinduism?

response

APlus mod said:
yeah, that's what she's saying.
and i agree. thhere's waaaay too much colonialism and white supremacy in our culture to even THINK about addressing the religion of brown people, the end.

Let me try this out

NO !!!

YOU DO NOT GET TO DO THAT !!

That's the news. Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow

Will it be another resignation next? Or will somebody new be picked to fill a pair of recently-vacated boots? And who?

Place your bets folks.

piegasm: Pretty much all of the mods have at some point said something along the lines of "This situation is too personal for me and I am unable to be objective. Can someone else please handle it?"

Tears of laughter.

They're overmoderated as it is. Keep the admins along with ceepolk and SubMor to do the dirty work, fire the rest. A forum that size only needs a couple of mods.

At the rate they're driving away new posters, they'll never grow beyond what they are now.

Did you see what they did to backpackergirl ? Genderqueer totally eclipsed feminism with Setar demanding the feminist leave the board. I wonder if RadFem Hub picked up on that ?

What the ****?

I guess A+ is a counter-doing-anything-at-all movement?

I've come around to thinking it is an actively damaging force. The sooner it dies the better.

I love how they use "tone policing" as code for "don't tell me not to tell you off".

If I had the energy I would look into the details here to see if there is a legit accepted understanding of gender and sex that backpackergirl messed up or whether this is all being pulled out of peoples' gender-nonspecific backsides.

Edit: But I don't because it's 2am and I'm just waiting for a simulation to finish so I can sleep.

As far as I can tell it's a me me me me !! approach.

The obvious problem here is that it's fairly easy to determine whether someone is male or female in meatspace and women's stories, like the poster was asking for, stand a far better chance of being positivity identified as instances of discrimination than those who identify as genderqueer and are not displaying anything recognizable to let the population know that they identify somewhere along the gender spectrum.

Online, the gender or degree of genderqueerness isn't so obvious.

It does sometimes strike me as people being Gödelqueer - that is "I am the one type of queer that does not neatly fit into your system". I can respect that, I'm with Nietzsche on systemisation. I think it should be resisted. Unfortunately people LOVE being able to put themselves into boxes because they then get to group up with people who are roughly similar to them (and then bicker incessantly due to the narcissism of small differences) and wave their whatever flag.

Typing that, I am aware that it would be replied to with that *********** Wonkaface on A+, but I do think it is true. I understand that you need to advocate for women's rights because women were identified as a group and denied rights. If other people (and even you yourself) are struggling to identify the group you claim to be advocating for then you may be tilting at windmills.
