And speaking of A+.... I have exciting news for all of you planning on attending Skepticon in November. They've started a drive to raise funds to sponsor airline tickets and lodging (e.g. create scholarships) to "Send A+ to Skepticon".

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/send-atheism-plus-to-skepticon

They've got forty days and want to raise at least $700, which should be a walk in the park. All they need is for their regular posters (all 15 of them) to commit to, uh.... something around fifty bucks each (they promised me there would be no math on this sub-forum).

Of course, that allows for a $300 airline ticket. Where they're planning on finding three hundred buck r.t. tickets, I don't know. Most of their members are in B.C., aren't they? (The couple of weeks up to Thanksgiving are the high season for U.S. travel, aren't they?)

I figure if Scrut joins now, they might raise enough to get him gas money and some ramen noodles. And if you weren't planning on attending, I'd think this would make the decision rather easy. An actual chance to see an A-Plusser outside of their normal environment (a basement apartment with blackout drapes).

And Qwints!!! Atta-Xie! Pledged more than half the current commitment.

For those of you who are interested, they're offering some mighty fine "rewards" for contributions. That picture of DragonRebecca would look just awesome as Scrut's avatar. http://atheismplus.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5227

Oh. Oh wow.

I know this makes me a terrible, terrible person, but I want to contribute and get all those wonderful prizes. I confess I did not know what "flash fiction" was and decided that it must be short for "Slash Fan Fiction" and I was expecting another Kirk/Spock story. Come to find out it's very short fiction.

So, I can get a color poster of Meyers making out with Shermer, a whole album of songs about not making reckless allegations on a blog without evidence, and a flash fiction of Shermer seducing Meyers via an overabundance of Singapore Slings, for the low, low price of only 250 bucks. Oh dang. If that's not bang for the buck, I don't know what is.

I see what you did there. :D

I will take odds that if one of them\xir\xe\fug or whatever does go that they wind up at the heart of a new "controversy".

Bwahahahahahaha!!!! I'm was going before, I certainly going now!!! It's like getting new toys to play with on Xmas morning!!

Yeah....I doubt $700 would even get one A+ nutter there. This demonstrates the alternate reality these people live in. Pick whatever city you want, then price a ticket to KC, St Louis, Tulsa, Little Rock. Now add $200-$300 to connect to Springfield. Too much? OK, now you have to rent your scholarship "winner" a car. And pay for their gas. And hotel room (although I suppose they could stay with a host family - as long as they're not white!).

This is a group that probably doesn't have a net worth of $700 amongst all 15 of them. So, yeah....

The greatest fun I'll have is watching the look on their faces when they realize their little "harassment" policy doesn't apply in the real world, i.e. outside the boundaries of Skepticon. Now, I'm certainly not going to harass any of them (using the real world, legal definition of harassment), but imagine some local groping them in the bar (assuming they're hot - no, wait...LOL!! I kill me)...what do they do? Show the hillbilly a copy of the A+ anti-harassment policy? The though of witnessing something like this makes me cackle with glee!!!

I can see great value in paying them to stay away from all skeptic events.

I shudder to think how they would react to a bunch of us playing Cards Against Humanity in the Del Mar. ;)

This is basically the only skeptic event they have left. They've isolated themselves from everything else. Skepticon better not start charging $$$, or else they'll lose this one too.

Foolmewunz, thanks for the fundraiser plug! Send someone to skepticon or go yourself, it's all good.

Well, you're quite welcome. Apparently the fund-raising is stuck at the opening salvo, so it might be that the members here are the hope of raising bus fare for the freedom riders.

I'm a bit far away. If you guys want to raise the three grand I'd need to attend, I'll apply for the scholarship, though. I'll waive my normal per diems and speaking fee. Topic: What real social activism entails.

I'd love to compare battle scars with some of the armchair warriors.

As a side note: Someone should check out Skepticon's own campaign to raise funds to bring noted skeptical songwriter Shelley Segal (well that's what it says) from Australia. In about a month, they haven't even matched the $290 that A+ raised overnight! I hope xie knows how to swim.

@Scrut - glad this made your day. Maybe you could borrow a double-wide and help put some SJWs up?

Apparently Setar is out. S/he can't room alone, because...well, patriarchy, I suppose. It seems to be fear, but we all know the real basis of all fears is cis white males. At any rate, Setar has to share a room. Maybe we could get ceepolk there, and they could bunk together. We could bet on which of them comes out alive at the end of the conference. I'd consider going if I knew I could see one of those two (or, *gasp* both) in person.
