Count me out of the insults. It simply gives RW an excuse to claim we are proving her right. It's something she can focus on and ignore substantive claims. And, FWIW, I don't hate RW. I've no ill will for her at all. I'm just very disappointed that when it was important she couldn't put herself above the fray and act like a professional, or at the least, try to find some common ground and reconciliation.

That's funny, the way I've always pronounced it is like the 'A' sound in "Watson", not "hat". Do you say "swat" to rhyme with "hat" also?

Twat rhymes with hat, cat, splat, fat and gnat.

Which is all the ingredients of the most vulgar Dr Seuss book in history.

+1

No, but I then I can also twat my flys with a swatter.
That twat deserves a twat on the twat is also perfectly cromulent.

Now Twunt on the otherhand :p

I personally read it as T'Watson without the apostrophe (damn Lancastrian infiltratin' tha speech) as would not sound correct

When I was in college, my favorite professor shook his head and gave a "tsk, tsk" when I told him my philosophy.

"Always be careful of following an '-ism', because it makes you an '-ist'," he warned. "Then you're left constantly moving toward the extreme because others will argue, persuasively, you're not a true -ist until you do. Soon, you won't be a thinker...but will have become a caricature."

I suppose that's why I look at things like this t-shirt row and just shake my head. Really? Not to go all Dawkins here...but there are real issues "feminists" can rightfully be upset about. This? Hardly.

What issues would those be?

ETA: Where did you get the right to tell others what they can rightfully be concerned about?

Nailed it.

Or maybe the credit should go to your professor. :)

A snippet from Facebook tonight:

A+ Numpty: I've found it very common that people with highly developed critical thinking skills will frequently have one or two subjects that they just refuse to apply them to, or have some sort of block where they don't see that they are not being properly skeptical. For some it's religion, for some it's UFO's or conspiracy theories, for some it's racism or sexism.

Critical Thinker: Agreed. The A Plussers are a great example.

A+ Numpty: Yeah look at us, super-gullibly believing that sexism and racism exist! Just like silly bigfoot hunters! Har har har!

Critical Thinker: Whoosh!!!!

These people don't get it. They really. Truly. Don't. Get. It.

I'm going to guess, "... because that's his opinion".

Does every post have to be prefaced with "IMHO" for someone to toss out an idea or interpretation? We're hashing over things and unless we get into real issues requiring evidence, most of this thread is people expressing how they personally view this whole brouhaha, from Elevatorgate to Boycottgate to to PZgate to A+gate to She'sATwatgate. Other than corrections where people have incorrectly claimed words were written or said by other persons, this thread is thousands of posts of subjective opinions.

No, I'm not Tone Policing. I'm Content Policing. Asking someone for evidence and peer reviewed reports in a thread like this is like asking someone to back up why they prefer peach pie to cherry pie.

Is not!

Er... I mean, "No more of your piesplaining. You're finished in this thread because my anxiety level is rising at the mere thought of someone who doesn't recognize the superiority of peach pie."

STOP RIGHT THERE.

This is 301 material. You probably shouldn't even be posting in this thread if you haven't already accepted the Pie 101 facts.

Why is cake being left out? You pie people are so bigoted.

I find that whole exchange more than a little cringe worthy.

Agreed. If the authors were male it would be called a circle jerk.

Well, the words of certain preambles to peace negotiations are also quite often a tad on the saccharine side, too. I wonder if she had this exchange vetted by The Watson and PZ? Or will they now round on Amy.

As we have seen Rebecca doesn't want to take on Novella on her own... my guess (opinion, TSIG) is that she won't do so until she has another bully pulpit lined up. But who knows... maybe the next episode will be The Great Peace Conference of 2013? Can the Nobel Peace Prize be far behind?

What's the Vegas line on this?

PZ to stir the pot and go back to pitbull mode... I'd give it roughly 1:1.
Rebecca to make nice-nice to Harriet via Amy... 3:1 in favor.
Rebecca to directly address Harri apologies-Dr. Hall? 1:2 against.
Rebecca to follow up in that thread on Dr. Hall's blog where she made her embarrassingly childish Neener Neener Neener I'm Ig-noring You post? 1:5 against.

Personally, the only thing that could come close to rehabilitating her in my mind, would be the last.

Just a thought, but Surly Amy sure hasn't been surly for the past ten months. There was Weepy Amy and now there's Tribute to Rodney King Amy. Gonna have to get working on the surliness!

I find it infinitely preferable to what preceded it.

from pz myers:

Harriet Hall and Amy Roth have reconciled. I’m pleased to hear it; I wasn’t worried about Amy, but Hall was going to hit mantle at the rate she was digging. It is a great relief that she stopped, looked around, and considered her situation thoughtfully, and then responded well.

this guy is the "english" definition of a right twat!
