Aspartame

Anyone use Stevia? It's not used in pop...or at least not yet. I use it for other things like cereal, etc. I believe it comes from a plant in South America.

Yes. The sweetleaf plant from Brazil, I believe. But it's not readily available in the US because the FDA has screwed up. Apparently someone lodged a complaint, and so it was banned, and now it's only available in the US as a food supplement, and not as a food additive or some such nonsense. I have no idea how this makes any sense, but it's one of the great mysteries of the FDA.

I buy it at the health food store. It comes in small packets like other sweeteners, and I believe it is also available as a liquid. It sounded the safest of the ones I read about at one point.

But it tastes right. Unlike aspartame.

But in reality I have no idea what you are getting at. Should we stop eating table salt because it is 60% (by weight) chlorine molecules? Ridiculous.

No, no, next time I'll add a winky smile to the end ;)

When I typed that sentence, I was imagining a bunch of guys in Hazmat suits dumping sugar into a swimming pool. :D

Although I do remember reading that splenda had to change their advertisement from "Tastes like sugar because it's made from sugar" to "Tastes like sugar because we've done something kind of creepy with it".

BTW, does anyone know what f*****g financial interests are delaying Splenda's approval in Europe ?
