Ask hard questions, get kicked out of scouts

Meanwhile, in my neck of the woods:

A Cub Scout questioned a Colorado state senator at a meeting. Now he’s been kicked out of his den.

Eleven-year-old Ames Mayfield, a fifth-grader at Prospect Ridge Academy and a Scout for five years, on Oct. 9 asked Sen. Vicki Marble, R-Fort Collins, questions about gun control, and about comments Marble made at a 2013 legislative hearing on poverty about mortality rates among African-Americans.

The boy’s mother, Lori Mayfield, on Wednesday said Ames was kicked out of his den, or Scout group, as a result.

Colorado Sen. Vicki Marble’s finger-lickin’ lie

I'm gonna guess it's more the mother getting her kid kicked out (or father). I'm guessing a history of being super annoying via her child and generally being a tool.

A fifth grader is unlikely to randomly pop out a question like that.

Children that age are a lot more astute than you give them credit for.
They are also quite good at spotting inconsistencies between what they can see and what people say. Later, we beat that ability out of them by intimidation and ridicule, just as they are doing with this one.

Why do you make that claim?

I bet you can actually answer that on the first try.

But in case you are that naïve: the politician is a lying and vicious republicker willing to make trouble for a kid bright enough to ask a hard question OR the scout leadership is cowards kowtowing to a lying and vicious republicker willing and happy to make trouble for a kid bright enough to ask a hard question. Either way the scout leaders and the politician are the ones that come out looking like piles of fecal matter!!!!!

The assignment was for the scouts to research her voting history and current events to formulate questions to ask her.

Other scouts apparently asked questions about the border wall, and other current topics:

Other Scouts asked Marble about the border wall, fossil fuels, and voting for President Barack Obama. No other Scout was dismissed from the den, Mayfield said.

Her statements regarding race, health and diet were well covered back when she made them (ChickenGate, 2013) - any cursory search of her name would turn that up:

Sen. Vicki Marble’s ignorant comments on race and diet

I do trust the parents will sue the scouts generally and the local leaders specifically!!!! I would love to be on the jury for that one. It is perfectly open and shut!!!!

And that article and the assignment together assure what I think will/should happen to the scout leaders!!!!!!!!!

Agreed. My third grader could easily have reached that kind of question.

I'm also willing to bet that the parents talk about politics at home. Not necessarily expressing those exact opinions but perhaps discussing the topics.

In the video, the fifth grader confidently reads his typed questions while Marble listens.

“Why on earth would you want someone who beats their wife to have access to a gun?” he asks.

Later he says, “There’s something wrong in our country where Republicans believe it’s a right to own a gun, but a privilege to have health care.”

Sounds "legit."

He's just asking legit questions, folks.

Have you seen his pic? He totally looks like a kid who would be named Ames Mayfield. But even if he was annoying that's no reason to boot him out of the scouts.

...Prior to the den meeting, Ames researched Marble, his mother said, as the Scouts knew she would be speaking. Ames formulated the questions he would ask, she said...

ETA: Ames Research. I like the sound of that.

Solved it: kids can't type!

"why on earth" would you say that?

"why on earth" lolz. Cause kids always sound like Great Aunt Bertha.

And as a follow up question, "There’s something wrong in our country where Republicans believe it’s a right to own a gun, but a privilege to have health care."

Answer: that is not a question "Ames" and is that your mommy with the iPhone so she can put this on YouTube? Why don't you GTFO?

For the record, he didn't get kicked out of Scouts, he was kicked out of a den. Still, sounds like too much politics involved, shame on that den leader for his/her action. If the kid had cursed or spit or something, maybe, but to kick a kid out of a den because the kid's politics were unacceptable, (be they influenced by the mother or not), that's just wrong.

Kids sound all sorts of ways. You know there are all sorts of kids, right?

And for your score board you can print out this award: https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Argument_from_incredulity

Kids say the darndest things!

And people sometimes deliberately edit posts so that my comment about "his" polemic "question" about "Republicans" and "privilege" can be easily discarded.
Score indeed, huh?

Yeah, I believe precocious "Ames" and his thirsty, thirsty Mom set this all up.

I wonder if thirsty mom had permission to post that video?

Who the **** cares if mom set it up or not?

He shouldn't be punished for his actions, he shouldn't be punished for hers, either.

Either way, all he learned here is to keep his mouth shut, or be punished.

Yeah, I too find it deeply unusual for parents to film their children. Never happens...
