I just asked free Gemini to give me 3 page story and it took 15 seconds. But I've certainly seen spitting them out lot faster. I'd say a second per page is not unrealistic.

That's what they are actually good at. They won't get bored, they won't get angry .. I wouldn't be surprised if people started to prefer talking to AI rather than to other people.

It doesn't quite fire up the right ones unless I know I'm playing chemical ping pong. Even gamers prefer other people to bots, if only to picture the other person's angry tantrum.
Speak for yourself, I hate multiplayer. If I wanted to engage with people like that I'd play a sport. I'm perfectly happy pushing pixels at my own pace for entertainment, throwing my tantrums alone.
