Are most homosexuals atheists?

Seems to me it would be kind of counter productive to be Christian and be a homosexual, seeing as how the Bible calls for their death. Some religions are more accepting, such as Episcopalians. Do you guys think that most homosexuals are atheists? I don't think I have met a gay who was Christian. Then again, I have not met very many gays.

I would guess (without doing any research) that they the percentage of atheists is slightly higher than in heterosexuals in any given population, but not so much as to make them a majority, at least not in the US.

But again, it depends on the society. In Iraq, most homosexuals are either dead, or so carefully closeted that you could never get a real poll.

A sizable percentage of the gays I know in Houston are Neopagan.

I know lots of homosexuals who say they are christian. None seem too interested in reconciling what the bible says with their lifestyle. They "just are."

I'm with you though, who would want to belong to an organization that doesn't want you?

don't know numbers, but there are Christian churches and Jewish synagogues that even allow same sex marriages.

What's strange about Iraq, is having sex with other males is not uncommon. It is seen as just something you do with a guy who is your close friend. Being full blown homosexual is probably a good way to get killed though.

You wouldn't happen to have one of those little irony meters in the form of a hypocrisy meter would you?

I'm reasonably sure that you can interpret christian texts in a way such that they condone homosexuality.

What exactly is the difference? Having sex with some guy who is NOT your close friend?

Far from conclusive evidence but most of the gays I know (and I know quite a few, majored in theater and all) are believers. They of course differ in how strongly they believe, but I've yet to meet one gay atheist.

Why I have no idea. I try to talk sense into them all the time.

I have and not one single one I know considers themselves an atheist....or an active worshipper. Most would come under the category of "unaffiliated monotheist".

I couldn't tell ya. Seems pretty retarded to me too. They also enjoy sex with donkeys as well, so there ya go (Not all of them obviously but it is much mroe prevalent then you would think).

The same way you can be a Christian and still eat pork.

I was asking for examples about how christian text could be interpreted as condoning homosexuality. I am well aware of all of the other retarded crap that is said in Leviticus and Exodus.

They do not want to be affilitated with a church because most churches frown upon homosexuality, but they simply cannot give up their belief in god. Seems reasonable to me.

Well I personally know one openly gay guy living in a same sex relationship who has reconcilled his faith and sexuality. How? I dont know and I am not going to ask. It's none of my business

If we're comparing anecdotes, I know several gay atheists-- in fact a couple of the most vocal atheists I know are gay. Not that either of our anecdotal experiences is relevant to the statistical question.

Any examples?

When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 19:33-35

You could interpret 'foreigner' as being anyone significantly different from yourself.

My gay stepson is quite Christian. I don't think he attends church very often these days, though. As far as I know, his gay friends are Christians, too.
