Are Agnostics Welcome Here?

Except you don't.

...except I don't...what?

Except you don't. Which is why philosophy and philosophers are not helpful, because they use words to argue nonsense positions that fly in the face of objective reality and invent meaningless concepts which they like to think are deeply meaningful.

Maybe because some things are, in fact, deeply meaningful. It is philosophy that provides us with the foundation for our legal and political systems as well as any ability we have to objectively orient our moral and ethical conditions. It is philosophy that provides the foundation of all scientific exploration. It is philosophy that allows legislators to draft meaningful constitutions that provide the basis for the actions of entire civilizations. Hardly meaningless concepts.

Editor's note: For 'philosophy' read 'experience'.

By introducing infinity here you are introducing are far more tricky form of argument.
There would be an infinity of Gods emanating from your toenail and an infinity of your toenails emanating from these Gods ad-infinitum.

Turtles all the way down...

Fine, this thread has developed into an exercise in laying out the philosophical positions regarding the existence of gods. Quite apt considering the Op.

Critical thinkers and skeptics should examine their position on this issue from time to time to avoid complacency and maintain an active skeptical outlook on all things.

Nonsense.

You may have discarded the ideas presented here, but have you demonstrated through argument that God/gods don't exist?

Or is it just an assumption you have made?

Assuming you are an atheist, I can't remember if you stated your position.

There is absolutely no evidence that any gods have ever existed.

The hypothesis that there are gods is unnecessary, and complexifies any models it touches, much as epicycles did.

The existence of gods would be tacky and very inelegant (this works for me, but may not for mundane others).

Why is this such an issue?

It's a waste of time is what the issue is. If you want to argue something, do so. If you won't believe what you're saying is true, then why argue it ?

Because there is a surprising pervasive dislike on this board of any intellectual exercise that has even a tint of philosophy.

That might have something to do with the fact that philosophie is not very useful.

Throw out philosophy, and you throw out science as well….not to mention the very reasoning that allows you to conclude that anything at all should be thrown out.

No.

That's like saying getting rid of old television sets means getting rid of plasma televisions as well because one led to the other.

…..amazing….I just posted this…:

....yet you continue to insist that philosophy is not very useful. I will borrow a ‘Belz tactic’…I’ll repeat myself. Philosophy is the foundation of science. Without it, there would be no science. Doubtless by tomorrow you will again be insisting that philosophy is of no use. Suit yourself.

Proof please. Philosophy is just a sideline. Good for exercising your jaw muscles.

Show it don't just say it.

This unbelievable sense of superiority while having less use than a water bucket with a hole in it is why many dislike philosophy and philosophers.
