This is just a shout-out for a YouTube channel that I think is woefully under subscribed.

I have a mild interest in archaeology but find almost every episode of this rather prolific fellow quite fascinating.

Other than being a subscriber to his channel, I am not connected to him in any other way, just in case you wondered.

I, too, have a long-time love for archaeology. You can see my own "Archaeology and the Hebrew Bible" thread here at JREF, where we examine different views and work around that topic that has enthralled me since I was 18. (I'm not 18 anymore!)

But, I think the archaeosoup page is a handy location for archaeology news we might not otherwise learn about. Certainly, it is a great place to learn what NOT to do if confronted with the bagged remains of a partially decomposed badger in a completely dark room.
 
One thing I've noticed on this front is the use of satellite imagery to locate new sites. There are a lot of places with potential for study right now, but the fear is the black market is getting the same images and may beat legitimate people to them.
 
Archeology is also very accessible to people who have no training but mountains of enthusiasm. I have been on two digs, where I was nothing more than a mule for all the dirt being moved around.

But I was there when they pulled a 150 year old porcelain doll out of the dirt fully intact, and that made it all very worth while

I was born in Sydney Australia, we were digging in a place called Parramatta which is one of the oldest towns outside of Sydney.

Anyway where the local cemetery was, old maps seemed to indicate a line of dwellings existing before the cemetery was expanded and we were looking for the foundations.....which we did find

Both digs were at that site. The second was frantic, and pretty much unlimited to volunteers. A major development was going in at that location so once the dig was finished no one would ever get access again

His "Questions of Doom" are not the better bits (but can be). I know badger gloop is the current one but have a look back at some of his other stuff too.

A few well spent minutes IMHO.

I'm a total archaeological nut. I've been on a number of digs and I've found some stuff. In the UK we're somewhat lucky because we've a long history. Thanks for the link!

Nice videos.

What is the host’s name? He is practically my twin. My hair is a bit fuller, and my face is a slightly bit more round, but he could show up in my place at work or other places and probably nobody would notice it was somebody else. Of course I don’t have an English accent, but my ancestors are mostly from England. With the similarity in features, I would find it difficult to believe we aren’t related in some way.

I was privileged recently to have a glimpse at the Biggleswade Hoard (as opposed to the Biggleswade Horde, who were mainly in the other room). :)

The Staffordshire Hoard looks interesting, it's been a while since I've been up that way. The article says next July, though, not March.

There was a meeting of some of the Science File forum members a few years ago when the Staffordshire haul (I hink that's the one) was put on exhibition in the Birmingham City museum. It was just so interesting to know what one was looking at.

I'm still wondering whether next year to go an peer at the grassy mounds of the Sutton Hoo site, but I haven't decided!
 
I used to want to be an archaeologist. I dropped out of school for health reasons and when I was good enough to go back I switched to IT becaue damn it I needed a job. Still kind of wish I went back.

I'll try to remember to check out your channel when I get home.
 
I'm still upset I didn't get enough money together to go to Cesarea back in the day. *sigh*

I did get to do some labwork on a dig in Annapolis though. W00t! Free labor!
