Merged Apollo "hoax" discussion - continuation thread

Yep, the CRM-114 is finally going solid state.

This fact is odd enough that I would expect an informed Arguer From Fallacies to eventually grab hold and tug.

Personally, I think it's fascinating that the USAF still had tube training in at least one AFSC for this long.

Oh, it's worse than that. Just think about a B-52! 8 engines, all controlled constantly throughout the entire flight. More movable control surfaces than I can count, plus navigation systems, radar, weapons control - it would take vastly more computing power to manage a B-52 than an Apollo, and yet supposedly the first B-52 flight was 17 years before the moon landing!

So we can only conclude that the B-52 was a hoax, too.

I knew the author of this book, who flew both B-47s and B-52s. He made a lot of Linebacker sorties during the Vietnam war. He said the co-pilots in both those aircraft were one-armed paper hangers who spent a great deal of time just operating the pumps to move the fuel load around from tank to tank as it burned off to in order to keep the plane trimable. He told us of a time when a transfer pump failed on their way in during a Linebacker mission, and they had to head for home and hope they didn't run out of aileron authority before they got back.

...Riveted, glued, or welded, depending on manufacturer and age. But fastened nonetheless, instead of integrated. This is what made Grumman's chem-milling technique such a valuable commodity. The same team that build the LM went on to build the F-14 Tomcat.

Which never went to the Moon!!!1111!!1! You really slipped up there, NASApologist!!1! Elevetyone!

And when you stand at the tip of a B-52 wing and see the long distance to the fuselage, and you look up and see those prodigiously sized ailerons over your head, you realize what a feat of engineering the plane is and was, notwithstanding.

There's a demo I do for students: you grab the tip wheel of an unfueled B-52 and give it a good hard lift. The wing will start bouncing and, if you keep it up, start to exhibit some complex flexure modes -- a sort of standing wave. The tip will eventually bounce with an amplitude of a couple of feet, just from muscle power. "Your job," I tell them, "is to understand in every way how something like this can be built and fly. I've just set several tons of aluminum into complex motion with my bare hands, yet it will provide lift and strength for several tons of fuel, several tons of bombs, and several tons of airframe."

Steve Horn told us that one of the challenges of flying the B-47s was that the wing's lack of torsional rigidity led to the ailerons acting like trim tabs at high speeds, causing the wings to twist in the opposite direction and resulting in control reversal.

Kyoon may regret coming into this thread. His delusional and largely incomprehensible rants about Illuminati and trans-bomb-whatnots and everybody's memory fiddled with and etc. are so stuffed with teh crazy that he can just cycle through the permutations to avoid ever having to address the details of their absurdity.

It was a tactical mistake on his part to make - well, regurgitate someone else's - specific claims about a technical topic, and to accidentally do so in a way that could actually be parsed. He'll have to Gish-Gallop like crazy to extricate himself.

Indeed. Unlike the pseudo-political buffoonery with which he has hitherto occupied his critics, engineering -- specifically the technical history of a well-known project -- is a thing about which there are definite right and wrong answers. Especially with a program as meticulously and extensively documented as Apollo, he's going to have a hard time implying no one can possibly know he's wrong.

I suspect he'll probably just rely on his same old nonsensical rhetoric. It may not stick, but it comes out of the hose easy.

I have his blog open. Some of his blog posts (which I'm certain off that he'll make topics from on this site) are titled:

I'd link to it, but there are somewhat NSFW popups.

But, wow. Just, wow.

His research ability is demonstrated pretty admirably by this:

Any celestial body that can not be observed with a telescope located ON Earth, is fake.
This one basic fact implies that for instance Pluto (the first example among millions) is an invention created by the illuminati.

He seems to be a big fan of lastprophet, who posts at DIF, and oddly has the same posting style, right down to the red font.

Ummm... How does he think Pluto was discovered?

Border Reiver asked for his link in the Tranny Obama Bathroom Bombs thread, which I posted. But for some reason the mods placed that post in AAH (with some other posts from that topic)

Ummm... How does he think Pluto was discovered?

Magic.

+1 more
Retired . from Lockheed Martin, and now analyzing commercial airliners after a career of one-off's.

Sounds like we have a robust panel of experts to evaluate any actual claims Kyoon might make. My guess is that he'll just spew conspiratorial nonsense and avoid anything that requires demonstrating actual knowledge.

I'm assuming most Apollo hoaxers are older than college age, so hopefully my daughter won't have to deal with such nonsense as she continues to pursue an Aerospace Engineering degree in college. She did see the Mythbusters episode about it, so she knows it exists, but hopefully not on the campus of WPI, with a school president who happens to have been a member of the Curiosity Rover team at NASA.
